Abstract:
Detection of the gravitational waves predicted by the theory of general relativity is still an open experimental venture. Several detectors designed for the frequency range between 10 Hz and 10 kHz are being built. Their expected sensitivity is near the required level for the detection of realistic astrophysical events. The expected signals and the main sources of noise are discussed together with perspectives in detector improvement.
