A new car-following model with consideration of the traffic interruption probability

Abstract:In this paper, we present a new car-following model by taking intoaccount the effects of the traffic interruption probability on thecar-following behaviour of the following vehicle. The stabilitycondition of the model is obtained by using the linear stabilitytheory. The modified Korteweg--de Vries (KdV) equation is constructedand solved, and three types of traffic flows in theheadway sensitivity space---stable, metastable, and unstable---areclassified. Both the analytical and simulation results show that thetraffic interruption probability indeed has an influence on drivingbehaviour, and the consideration of traffic interruption probabilityin the car-following model could stabilize traffic flow.
