A practical kinetic resolution of 4-acetyl[2.2]paracyclophane

Abstract:
The kinetic resolution of 4-acetyl[2.2]paracyclophane has been realized by borane reduction in the presence of a CBS catalyst. The structure of the two diastereomeric alcohol products has been established. The ketone was recovered in more than 99% e.e. at 69% conversion.
