A consistent and comprehensive approach has been adopted to derive the framework of a deformation dipole model (DDM) which is capable of explaining successfully the lattice dynamics of ionic crystals. The application of this model to the case of the niobium carbide crystal has reproduced fairly well the phonon dispersion curves. |
