Abstract:Switching the orientation of a vortex core byspin-polarised pulse current introduces a promising concept for thereliable addressing of a single nanodisc element inside densearrays. In this paper, micromagnetic simulations are employed tostudy the vortex core switching behaviour excited by a shortin-plane Gaussian current pulse. We find that both the switchingmechanism and the switching time are not sensitive to changes inthe phenomenological parameters of spin-torque nonadiabaticity andGilbert damping. The switching time, however, strongly depends onthe current strength. In addition, we have theoretically predictedthe parameter range of current pulses to achieve a singleswitching event.
