Abstract: | The technique and the results of an experimental investigation of the longitudinal force component and the vertical coordinate of the point of its application when bore-type waves impinge on a vertical cylinder are presented. The bore was generated by removing a vertical gate providing a difference of free surface levels in a channel with a smooth horizontal bottom. It was found that the presence of a free surface in the incident flow has a considerable effect on the force and its moment about the channel bottom. |
