Synthesis and spectral characteristics of some 1'-long chain alkyl substituted indolinospirobenzothiopyrans |

| Abstract: | Title compounds I (R1 = C16H33, C18H37; R2 = H, Me; R3 = H, MeO) were preparation by refluxing indolines II with benzaldehydes III in EtOH. Their m.p., elemental analyses, 1H NMR and mass spectra were studied to identify the structure of these new compounds The photochromic properties of all these compounds in solution and polymer media, as well as the absorption spectral properties of I and their ring opened from (merocyanines) were studied. The effects of the substituent and media on the spectral properties and the stability of merocyanines were also discussed. |
