Abstract: | Summary The paper considers the optimization of a model system consisting of barium chloride (matrix) and lead, chromium, manganese, copper, iron and vanadium (as impurities in trace amounts). The determination of the trace metals is performed by coprecipitation on a CdS collector and subsequent emission spectroscopic analysis. Parameters involved in optimization were pH of the solution, concentration of BaCl2 and temperature of precipitation. The output function was the analytical signal determined as difference between the optical densities of the respective spectral line and the background. It has been found that optimal values of Y are obtained at 15% matrix concentration and pH 7–8 for a constant level of impurities of 0.1–1 g/ml.
