CHARACTERIZATION OF 12-SILICOTUNGSTIC ACID SUPPORTED ON ACTIVATED CARBON

ilicotungstic acid (SiW12) with different loadings supported on coal-based activated carbon has been characterized by XRD, FT-IR,NH3-TPD and the esterification of butanol with acetic acid which is catalyzed by Bronsted acid used as a probe reaction. The maximum monolayer dispersion of SiW12 on activated carbon surface is equivalent to its maximum adsorption capacity on surface in water solution. The affinity of activated carbon for SiW12 occurred only at the site of oxygen-contain.iug groups on the support surface. After washing with hot water, the SiW12 retained firmly on the surface of carbon still has Keggin structure, but its acidity becomes weaker. The acidity of SiW12 and its acidcatalytic activity are varied according to its adsorbed strength on activated carbon. The stronger the adsorbed strength is, the weaker the acidity and acid-catalytic activity of SiW12.
