| Abstract: | Trifluoroacetonitrile was condensed with diethyl malonate to give a novel ethyl 2,6-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4-hydroxypyrimidine-5-carboxylate ( 2 ) in 88% yield. Derivations of 2 are also described. |
