Abstract:Three kinds of filters used in wavelength-division (de) multiplexer (WDM) and optical cross-connect (OXC) are compared, which are Fabry-Perot (FP), GRATING and interference-FILM filters. On the basis of the transmission function, the relations of 1 dB bandwidth of the filters vs the accuracy and stability of the wavelength, the crosstalk level vs the channel spacing are discussed. The aggregated transmission function of multiple cascaded filters and detuned filters and their influences on the WDM networks are also analyzed. The results show that the FILM filter has the overall performance and favorably suits of WDM networks containing a number of nodes.
