Abstract: | Abstract A fluorescence quenching method for the determination of fluoride ion over the concentration range from 10?9 to 10?6M is presented. The fluoride ion is added to the fluorescent chelate of aluminum(III) and PAN [1- (2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol]: the fluoride preferentially complexes the aluminum (III), displacing nonfluorescent PAN. Of the anions tested as possible interferences at equimolar levels, phosphate interferred seriously and iodide interferred somewhat. |
