Abstract: | The title compound (C10H10N2O2 , Mr=190.20), 1-methyl-5-phenylhydantoin (1-methyl-5-phenyl-2, 4-imidazolidinedione) was synthesized by the reaction of 2-hydroxy-2-methylthio acetophenone (α-benzoyl hemithioacetal) with methylurea in slightly acidic medium. The crystal was crystallized in the orthorhombic system, space group Pbca with parameters a=18.077(5), b=14.386(2), c=7.035(1), Z=8, V=1829(1)3, Dc=1.381 g/cm3, μ(MoKα)=0.99cm-1, F(000)=800, R=0.040, Rw=0.050 for 1395 observed reflections I>3σ(I)]. It consists of a planar benzene ring and an imidazole ring, whose dihedral angle is 96.32°. In the title crystal, the glide-c-related-molecules (x, 1/2-y, -1/2+z) form chains, which are further related by the screw axis (1-x, 1/2+y, 1/2-z), forming networks along the bc plane. The networks are centrosymmetrically packed (1-x, -y, -z). |
