Abstract: | This article sets forth the results of an investigation of the temperature, velocity, dynamic head, and static pressure in high-current argon arcs used in plasma metallurgy. It is shown that the velocity and the amount of gas pumped through the column of the arc are determined by the current of the arc. A calculation is made and equations are presented which permit calculating this type of arc on the basis of a simplified equilibrium model. Experiment is compared with theory.Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskoi Fiziki, No. 1, pp. 66–74, January–February, 1973. |
