| Abstract: | An efficient one-step synthesis of 4-nitro-N-aryl substituted glutarimides, succinimides and maleimides in polyphosphoric acid is described together with the subsequent reduction to the corresponding anilines. The scope and limitation of this cyclocondensation are presented. |
