Abstract: | Nickel dimethylglyoximate crystals precipitated from homogeneous solution are well formed and convenient for microscopic study. The crystals are precipitated in solution as long needles with a rectangular cross-section. The direction of the long axis, i.e., the direction of the long dimension of the needle, is the c-axis ; the shortest axis is either the a- or b-axis. When the single crystal was slowly heated in the electron microscope, it began to sublime at 120° with changes occurring in its surface structure. Above 400° the Debye-Scherrer diffraction rings appeared as the crystal changed to nickel oxide. |
