A New Algorithm of Extracing Characters and Combining Strings in Engineering Drawings

It is a very difficult problem to solve in the field of CAD/CAM to convert scanned engineering drawings into graphics. There are a lot of dimension characters in drawings, and the method to process them is different from that of other lines. Extracting and recognizing these characters is the key component of drawing conversion system. In this paper, the disadvantages of some existing methods of extracting characters are analysed. A new algorithm of extracting characters and combining strings are presented in detail. A experimental sample is given,and it proves that the presented algorithm can extract strings speedily and efficiently.
