Abstract: | The potential energy curves of the ground state and the first excited state of H2 are examined in terms of the electronic force acting on each nucleus. The results reveal the detailed course of events that occur when two hydrogen atoms with parallel and antiparallel electron spins approach one another from a large internuclear separation. |
