| Abstract: | [reaction: see text] Anomalous ozonolysis of strained bicyclic allylic alcohols yields alpha-hydroxymethyl ketones. The proposed mechanism involves an unusual trapping of the primary ozonide that undergoes a Grob-like fragmentation instead of dissociating into the Criegee intermediates. |
