| Abstract: | Dichloromethyl alkyl ethers have been synthesized from alkyl formates (C1–C4) and oxalyl chloride in the presence of catalytic amount of N-methylformanilide. N,N-Dimethylformamide is not suitable for the reaction. The method has the advantages of simple experimental procedure, which is applicable to large scale synthesis, without use of harmful reagents. |
