Crystal and molecular structures of trifluoromethyl derivatives of fullerene C86, C86(CF3)16 and C86(CF3)18

Trifluoromethyl derivatives of C₈₆ were obtained by the reaction of a mixture of higher fullerenes with trifluoromethyl iodide, followed by the HPLC separation of the products. The crystal and molecular structures of C₈₆(CF₃)₁₆ (two isomers) and C₈₆(CF₃)₁₈ were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction using synchrotron radiation.
