For the first time, grazing incidence small‐angle X‐ray scattering (GISAXS) analysis is used to characterize the morphology of TiO2 thin films grown by glancing angle physical vapor deposition (GLAD). According to cross‐section scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, the films consist of near isotilted TiO2 columns of different length and width depending on film thickness. The obtained GISAXS patterns show a characteristic asymmetry with respect to the incidence plane, which is associated with the tilted geometry of the TiO2 columns. The patterns also show the existence of two populations of columns in these GLAD‐TiO2 films. The population of the thinnest columns appears related to the first grown layer and is common for all the films investigated, while the second population of columns grows with the thickness of the films and has been related to wider columns formed by shadowing at the expense of the initially formed columns.  相似文献

Controlling cellular responses on biomaterial surfaces is crucial in biomedical applications such as tissue engineering and implantable prosthetics. Since cells encounter various nanoscale topographic features in their natural environment, it has been postulated that surface nanotopography may be an alternative route to fabricate biomaterials with a desirable cellular response. In this framework, we investigated the responses of primary human fibroblasts to platinum substrates with different levels of surface roughness at the nanoscale. The nanorough surfaces were fabricated by using the glancing angle deposition technique (GLAD). We found that levels of cellular responses depended on the surface roughness and the size of the nanoscale features. We showed that in response to nanotopography cells spread less and have an elongated morphology, displaying signs of actin cytoskeleton impairment and reduced formation of focal adhesion complexes. Although cell growth and adhesion were impaired on the nanorough substrates, cell viability was not affected by topography. To a minor extent our results also indicate that cell migration might be reduced on the nanorough surfaces, since a significantly lower gene expression of migration related genes were found on the roughest surfaces as compared to the flat reference. The results presented here demonstrate that surface nanotopography influences fibroblasts responses on platinum, which may be used to reduce cellular adhesion on platinum implant surfaces such as implantable neural electrodes.  相似文献

Ultrathin-layer chromatography (UTLC) provides the high sensitivities and rapid separations over short distances desirable in many analytical applications. The dependence of these performance benefits on UTLC layer microstructure motivates continued stationary phase engineering efforts. A new method of modifying the elution behaviours of nanostructured thin film UTLC stationary phases is investigated in this report. Macroporous normal phase silica thin films ~5 μm thick were fabricated using glancing angle deposition (GLAD). Reactive ion etching (RIE) and a subsequent annealing treatment modified stationary phase morphology to tune migration velocity, analyte retention, and overall separation performance. Combining this technique with a RIE shadow mask enabled fabrication of adjacent concentration and separation zones with markedly different elution properties. Although produced using an entirely new approach, GLAD UTLC concentration zone media behaved in a manner consistent with traditional thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and high-performance TLC (HPTLC) concentration zone plates. In particular, these new media focused large volume, low concentration dye mixture spots into narrow bands to achieve high-quality separations. The described approach to modifying the morphology and resultant elution behaviours of nanostructured stationary phases expands the capabilities of the GLAD UTLC technique.  相似文献

In order to verify the properties of the light propagating through a gradient-index (GRIN) fibre probe for optical coherence tomography (OCT), numerical simulation using the optical software GLAD is carried out. Firstly, the model of the GRIN fibre probe is presented, which is consisted of a single mode fibre (SMF), a no-core fibre (NCF), a GRIN fibre lens and an air path. Then, the software GLAD is adopted to numerically investigate how the lengths of the NCF and the GRIN fibre lens influence the performance of the Gaussian beam focusing through the GRIN fibre probe. The simulation results are well consistent with the experimental ones, showing that the GLAD based numerical simulation technique is an intuitive and effective tool for the verification of the properties of the light propagation. In this paper, we find that on the conditions of a constant GRIN fibre lens length of 0.1 mm and an NCF length of 0.36 mm, the working distance of the probe will be 0.75 mm and the focus spot size is 32 μm.  相似文献

This work reports about the performance of a Ni/Cu‐modified screen printed electrodes (SPE/Ni/Cu), prepared by physical vapor deposition (PVD) in an oblique angle configuration (OAD), for non‐enzymatic glucose sensing applications. SPE/Ni/Cu electrodes showed an excellent reversibility and a catalytic behavior for detection of glucose that were controlled by the diffusion of reactants up to the active sites at the electrode surface. The study with a flow injection analysis (FIA) setup of the main experimental variables affecting the detection process has shown that the developed electrode system had an excellent glucose sensitivity of 1.04 A M−1cm−2 (R2:0.999), a linear response up to 1 mM, a limit of detection of 0.33 μM and a time of analysis of ca. 30 s per sample. The selectivity of the sensor was checked against various interferences, including ascorbic acid, uric acid, acetaminophen and other sugars, in all cases with excellent results. The feasibility of using this sensor for practical applications was successfully confirmed by determining the glucose concentration in different commercial beverages.  相似文献
