We characterize the possible nonzero spectra of primitive integer matrices (the integer case of Boyle and Handelman's Spectral Conjecture). Characterizations of nonzero spectra of nonnegative matrices over and follow from this result. For the proof of the main theorem we use polynomial matrices to reduce the problem of realizing a candidate spectrum to factoring the polynomial as a product where the 's are polynomials in satisfying some technical conditions and is a formal power series in . To obtain the factorization, we present a hierarchy of estimates on coefficients of power series of the form to ensure nonpositivity in nonzero degree terms.

We study the Hard Core Model on the graphs G obtained from Archimedean tilings i.e. configurations in {0,1} G with the nearest neighbor 1’s forbidden. Our particular aim in choosing these graphs is to obtain insight to the geometry of the densest packings in a uniform discrete set-up. We establish density bounds, optimal configurations reaching them in all cases, and introduce a probabilistic cellular automaton that generates the legal configurations. Its rule involves a parameter which can be naturally characterized as packing pressure. It can have a critical value but from packing point of view just as interesting are the noncritical cases. These phenomena are related to the exponential size of the set of densest packings and more specifically whether these packings are maximally symmetric, simple laminated or essentially random packings. This paper is concerned with estimations of topological entropy for non-autonomous discrete systems. An estimation of lower bound of topological entropy for coupled-expanding systems associated with transition matrices in compact Hausdorff spaces is given. Estimations of upper and lower bounds of topological entropy for systems in compact metric spaces are obtained by their topological equi-semiconjugacy to subshifts of finite type under certain conditions. One example is provided for illustration.  相似文献

We introduce a Fourier-based harmonic analysis for a class of discrete dynamical systems which arise from Iterated Function Systems. Our starting point is the following pair of special features of these systems. (1) We assume that a measurable space comes with a finite-to-one endomorphism which is onto but not one-to-one. (2) In the case of affine Iterated Function Systems (IFSs) in , this harmonic analysis arises naturally as a spectral duality defined from a given pair of finite subsets in of the same cardinality which generate complex Hadamard matrices.

Our harmonic analysis for these iterated function systems (IFS) is based on a Markov process on certain paths. The probabilities are determined by a weight function on . From we define a transition operator acting on functions on , and a corresponding class of continuous -harmonic functions. The properties of the functions in are analyzed, and they determine the spectral theory of . For affine IFSs we establish orthogonal bases in . These bases are generated by paths with infinite repetition of finite words. We use this in the last section to analyze tiles in .

Enveloping semigroups of topological actions of semigroups on compact spaces are studied. For zero dimensional spaces, and under modest conditions on , the enveloping semigroup is shown to be the Stone-\v{C}ech compactification if and only if some Cartesian product has the two-shift as a factor. Examples are discussed showing that, unlike in the measure theory case, positive entropy does not imply the existence of such a factor even if the Cartesian product has large entropy.

In this paper we fix a set * of positive elements of the free group (e. g. the set of finite words occurring in a Markov subshift) as well as n partial isometries on a Hilbert space H. Based on these we define a map S : which we prove to be a partial representation of on H under certain conditions studied by Matsumoto.*Supported by Capes.  相似文献

We prove that certain Gibbs measures on subshifts of finite type are nonsingular and ergodic for certain countable equivalence relations, including the orbit relation of the adic transformation (the same as equality after a permutation of finitely many coordinates). The relations we consider are defined by cocycles taking values in groups, including some nonabelian ones. This generalizes (half of) the identification of the invariant ergodic probability measures for the Pascal adic transformation as exactly the Bernoulli measures-a version of de Finetti's theorem. Generalizing the other half, we characterize the measures on subshifts of finite type that are invariant under both the adic and the shift as the Gibbs measures whose potential functions depend on only a single coordinate. There are connections with and implications for exchangeability, ratio limit theorems for transient Markov chains, interval splitting procedures, `canonical' Gibbs states, and the triviality of remote sigma-fields finer than the usual tail field.

A class of primitive substitutions and scrambled sets   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
Consider the subshifts induced by constant-length primitive substitutions on two symbols. By investigating the equivalent version for the existence of Li-Yorke scrambled sets and by proving the non-existence of Schweizer-Smítal scrambled sets, we completely reveal for this class of subshifts the chaotic behaviors possibly occurring in the sense of Li-Yorke and Schweizer-Smítal.  相似文献
