In this paper we have numerically investigated the existence and uniqueness of a vertically flowing fluid passed a model of a thin vertical fin in a saturated porous media. We have assumed the two-dimensional mixed convection from a fin, which is modelled as a fixed, semi-infinite vertical surface, embedded in a fluid-saturated porous media under the boundary-layer approximation. We have taken the temperature, in excess of the constant temperature in the ambient fluid on the fin, to vary as
, where
is measured from the leading edge of the plate and λ is a fixed constant. The Rayleigh number is assumed to be large so that the boundary-layer approximation may be made and the fluid velocity at the edge of the boundary-layer is assumed to vary as
. The problem then depends on two parameters, namely λ and , the ratio of the Rayleigh to Péclet numbers. It is found that when λ>0 (<0) there are (is) dual (unique) solution(s) when is grater than some negative values of (which depends on λ). When λ<0 there is a range of negative value of (which depends on λ) for which dual solutions exist and for both λ>0 and λ<0 there is a negative value of (which depends on λ) for which there is no solution. Finally, solutions for 0<1 and 1 have been obtained. 相似文献

An analytical model for the boundary-layer of torsion in a piezoelectric thin plate with a symmetry of order six is proposed on the basis of the method of asymptotic expansions. The local behaviour of the three-dimensional solution of the problem of linear piezoelectricity is formulated in the vicinity of the lateral contour of the plate, and the solution of the problem for the boundary-layer of torsion is then obtained. However, we denote that full proof of the theorems is not given in this paper. Only hints of the proof are given. 相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to describe mixed convection heat transfer in the boundary layers on an exponentially stretching continuous surface with an exponential temperature distribution in the presence of magnetic field, viscous dissipation and internal heat generation/absorption. Approximate analytical similarity solutions of the highly non-linear momentum and energy equations are obtained. The present results are found to be in excellent agreement with previously published work on various special cases of the problem. Numerical results for temperature distribution and the local Nusselt number have been obtained for different values of the governing parameters. The numerical solutions are obtained by considering an exponential dependent stretching velocity and prescribed boundary temperature on the flow directional coordinate. The effects of various physical parameters like Prandtl number, Hartman number, Grashof number on dimensionless heat transfer characteristics are discussed in detail. In particular, it has been found that increase in Prandtl number decreases the skin-friction coefficient at the stretching surface, while increase in the strength of the magnetic field leads to increase in the local Nusselt number. 相似文献

The steady mixed convection boundary-layer flow over a vertical impermeable surface in a porous medium saturated with water
close to its maximum density is considered for uniform wall temperature and outer flow. The problem can be reduced to similarity
form and the resulting equations are examined in terms of a mixed convection parameter λ and a parameter δ which measures
the difference between the ambient temperature and the temperature at the maximum density. Both assisting (λ > 0) and opposing
flows (λ < 0) are considered. A value δ0 is found for which there are dual solutions for a range λc < λ < 0 of λ (the value of λc dependent on δ) and single solutions for all λ ≥ 0. Another value of δ1 of δ, with δ1 > δ0, is found for which there are dual solutions for a range 0 < λ < λc of positive values of λ, with solutions for all λ≤ 0. There is also a range δ0 < δ < δ1 where there are solutions only for a finite range of λ, with critical points at both positive and negative values of λ, thus
putting a finite limit on the range of existence of solutions. 相似文献

The steady-state boundary-layer flows over a permeable stretching sheet are investigated by an analytic method for strongly non-linear problems, namely the homotopy analysis method (HAM). Two branches of solutions are obtained. One of them agrees well with the known numerical solutions. The other is new and has never been reported in general cases. The entrainment velocity of the new branch of solutions is always smaller than that of the known ones. For permeable stretching sheet with sufficiently large suction of mass flux, the difference between the shear stresses and velocity profiles of two branches of solutions is obvious: the shear stress of the new branch of solutions is considerably larger than that of the known ones. However, for impermeable sheet and permeable sheet with injection or small suction of mass flux, the shear stress and the velocity profile of two branches of solutions are rather close: in some cases the difference is so small that the new branch of solutions might be neglected even by numerical techniques. This reveals the reason why the new branch of solutions has not been reported. This work also illustrates that, for some non-linear problems having multiple solutions, analytic techniques are sometimes more effective than numerical methods. 相似文献

Previous studies on boundary layer transition at moderate levels of free stream turbulence (FST) have shown that the transition process can be promoted by the introduction of Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) waves. In the present work the interaction between localized boundary layer disturbances and controlled TS-waves is studied experimentally. The localized disturbances are generated either from a controlled free stream perturbation, or by means of suction or injection through a slot in the flat plate surface. Both methods result in boundary layer disturbances dominated by elongated streamwise streaks of high and low velocity in the streamwise component. A strong interaction is observed preferably for high frequency TS-waves, which are damped when generated separately, and the interaction starts as a local amplification of a wide band of low-frequency oblique waves. The later stages of the transition process can be identified as a non-linear interaction between the oblique structures, leading to regeneration of new and stronger streamwise streaks. 相似文献

In this study, based on the reduced form of elasticity displacement field for a long laminate, an analytical method is established to exactly obtain the interlaminar stresses near the free edges of generally laminated composite plates subjects to extension, torsion, and bending. The constant parameters being in the displacement field, which describe the global deformation of a laminate, are appropriately calculated by using the improved first-order shear deformation theory. Reddy’s layerwise theory is subsequently employed for analytical and numerical examinations of the boundary layer stresses within arbitrary laminated composite plates. Various numerical results are developed for the interlaminar normal and shear stresses along the interfaces and through the thickness of laminates near the free edges. Finally the effects of end conditions of laminates and geometric parameters on the boundary-layer stress are studied. 相似文献

In wall-bounded time-periodic flows, nonlinearity, associated with higher harmonic term(s) in velocity and/or acceleration outside the boundary layer, can significantly change the wall turbulence compared with that in the linear Stokes Boundary Layer. A significant feature of a nonlinear wall-bounded turbulent time-periodic flow is the formation of a net current which has not yet been mechanistically explained. This study investigates the effects of asymmetric velocity outside the boundary layer on wall turbulence and net current formation through Direct Numerical Simulations of a smooth-walled planar channel driven by the Second-order Stokes Wave. Simulation results suggest that net current characteristics depend on whether developed turbulence is present. When turbulence is developed, asymmetric viscous length scale is found to be the primary reason of the net current whereby a vertical offset between negative and positive Reynolds shear stress profiles, associated with forward and reverse flows, respectively, is created in a cycle. After averaging over a cycle, residual Reynolds shear stress, which drives the net current, is observed to be within the offset layer. 相似文献

Boundary-layer solutions to Banks' problem for the flow induced by power-law stretching of a plate are obtained for two generalizations that include arbitrary transverse plate shearing motion. In one extension an arbitrary transverse shearing motion is the product of the power-law stretching. In the other extension the streamwise stretching coordinate is added to an arbitrary transverse shearing and together raised to the power of stretching. In addition we find that Banks' power law stretching may be accompanied by orthogonal power-law shear. In all cases, the original boundary-value problem of Banks [1] is recovered. Results are illustrated with velocity profiles both at the plate and at fixed height in the fluid above the plate. 相似文献
