The problem of investigation of the amplitude and phase structure of a time-varying probing optical signal and the structure of time-varying inhomogeneities of a substance tested by this signal is considered. The analysis is concerned, in particular, with determination of the structure of signals and processes with resolution in the pico- and femtosecond range. The scheme used for the analysis is based on registration of four spatially separated spectra of the studied radiation. The spectra are formed in a four-channel scheme with a twin-wave Michelson interferometer and a spectral device. Modulators based on electrooptical crystals (perovskites) are placed in the channels. The sum spectra are formed: without modulators, with the effect of either of the modulators, and with both of them affecting the radiation. The effect of the studied substance implies either modulating the radiation (in this case it is described by multiplication) or redistributing the radiation (then it is described by convolution).  相似文献

Disordered Sr2FeMoO6 shows a drastic reduction in saturation magnetization compared to highly ordered samples, moreover magnetization as a function of the temperature for different disordered samples shows qualitatively different behaviours. We investigate the origin of such diversity by performing spatially resolved photoemission spectroscopy on various disordered samples. Our results establish that extensive electronic inhomogeneity, arising most probably from an underlying chemical inhomogeneity in disordered samples, is responsible for the observed magnetic inhomogeneity. It is further pointed out that these inhomogeneities are connected with composition fluctuations of the type Sr2Fe1+x Mo1-x O6 with Fe-rich (x > 0) and Mo-rich (x < 0) regions. Two-dimensional antiplane time-harmonic Green’s functions for a circular inhomogeneity with an imperfect interface are derived. Here the linear spring model with vanishing thickness is employed to characterize the imperfect interface. Explicit expressions for the displacement and the stress fields induced by time-harmonic antiplane line forces located both in the unbounded matrix and in the circular inhomogeneity are presented. When the circular frequency approaches zero, our results reduce to those for the static case. Numerical results are presented to show the influence of the frequency and the imperfection of the interface on the stress and displacement fields.  相似文献

Concentration distributions and conformations of bovine serum albumin (BSA) entrapped in sol–gels were successfully determined for the first time by use of the recently developed NIR multispectral imaging instrument. It was found that BSA molecules were inhomogeneously distributed within the sol–gel matrix, independent of its concentration. At relatively high concentration (366 mg/mL) the encapsulation process does not seem to produce any observable changes in the conformation of BSA. However, when the concentration of BSA was decreased to 220 mg/mL, pronounced changes in the spectra of the protein were observed as a function of (sol–gel reaction) time. The observed inhomogenity might be traced to both a non-uniform concentration distribution of BSA and changes in protein native conformation resulting from interactions between the charged protein and the silicate anions. Results obtained seem to suggest that the protein molecules might adapt themselves to accommodate evolving geometry and sites of the silica network.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

One of the current challenges in liquid crystal science is to understand the molecular factors leading to the formation of the intriguing twist-bend nematic phase (NTB) and determine its properties. During our earlier hunt for the NTB phase created on cooling directly from the isotropic phase and not the nematic phase, we had prepared 30 symmetric liquid crystal dimers. These had odd spacers and methylene links to the two mesogenic groups; desirable but clearly not essential features for the formation of the NTB. Here, we report the phases that the dimers exhibit and their transition temperatures as functions of both the lengths of the spacer and the terminal chains. In addition we describe the transitional entropies, their optical textures, the X-ray scattering patterns and the 2H NMR spectra employed in characterising the phases. All of which may lead to important properties of the twist-bend nematic phase.  相似文献

Conformal mapping and analytic continuation are employed to prove the existence of an internal uniform electroelastic field inside a non-elliptical piezoelectric inhomogeneity interacting with a screw dislocation. We focus specifically on the case when the piezoelectric matrix surrounding the inhomogeneity is subjected to uniform remote anti-plane mechanical and in-plane electrical loading and a constraint is imposed between the remote loading and the screw dislocation. The constraint can be expressed in a relatively simple decoupled form by utilizing orthogonality relationships between two corresponding eigenvectors. The internal uniform electroelastic field is found to be independent of the presence of the screw dislocation; moreover, it can be expressed in decoupled form.  相似文献

Scanning deflectometric profilers based on an f–gθ system are typical optical tools used to measure mirror profiles at many synchrotron facilities. Unlike these profilers, which are based on a pencil beam, here a secondary light source and a pinhole are used to construct a system that automatically selects a beam that will always pass through the pinhole and propagate along the normal direction of the measured area on the surface under test. By measuring the angle variation of the selected beam, slope variations of the surface under test can be measured. Systematic errors introduced by manufacturing defects or aberrations of an optical element, which greatly degrade the performance of traditional profilers, could be minimized by using the developed method. Simulation values of the proposed method and a conventional method are compared.  相似文献

We report the effects of guest particles on the swelling properties of bulk polyacrylamide gels. The guest particles were the spheres of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) gel with submicrometer diameter, which were synthesized by an emulsion‐polymerized reaction in water. Polyacrylamide gels were prepared by a free radical polymerization reaction, immobilizing the gel microparticles with different concentrations at gelation. The macroscopic swelling ratio of this hybrid gel in a cylindrical shape was measured as functions of temperature and acetone concentration. The presence of guest particles was found to strongly affect the swelling behavior in the bulk gels when the concentration of incorporated particles exceeded a threshold. The experimental results indicated that the macroscopic volume in response to the temperature change should be determined by the guest particles above the threshold. On the other hand, the hybrid gel could not evidently shrink by adding acetone when the concentration of guest particles exceeded the threshold. To make clear the distribution of guest particles in the bulk networks, the fractured surfaces of dried gels were imaged by tapping mode atomic force microscopy. The guest particles were found to aggregate in the bulk homogeneous networks to form microdomains with densely connected structure, which became larger with increasing particle concentration. The roles of bulk networks as well as guest particles on the swelling behavior of hybrid gels were qualitatively discussed on the basis of the incorporated structure of guest particles, depending on the concentration of guest particles. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new approach combining a long pulse with the DEPTH sequence (Cory and Ritchey, Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 1988) greatly improves the efficiency for suppressing probe background signals arising from spinning modules. By applying a long initial excitation pulse in the DEPTH sequence, instead of a π/2 pulse, the inhomogeneous B(1) fields outside the coil can dephase the background coherence in the nutation frame. The initial long pulse and the following two consecutive EXORCYCLE π pulses function complementarily and prove most effective in removing background signals from both strong and weak B? fields. Experimentally, the length of the long pulse can be optimized around odd multiples of the π/2 pulse, depending on the individual probe design, to preserve signals inside the coil while minimizing those from probe hardware. This method extends the applicability of the DEPTH sequence to probes with small differences in B? field strength between the inside and outside of the coil, and can readily combine with well-developed double resonance experiments for quantitative measurement. In general, spin systems with weak internal interactions are required to attain efficient and uniform excitation for powder samples, and the principles to determine the applicability are discussed qualitatively in terms of the relative strength of spin interactions, r.f. power and spinning rate.  相似文献

This paper investigates the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of Al/Ti/4H-SiC Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) in the temperature range of 77 K-500 K, which shows that Al/Ti/4H SiC SBDs have good rectifying behaviour. An abnormal behaviour, in which the zero bias barrier height decreases while the ideality factor increases with decreasing temperature (T), has been successfully interpreted by using thermionic emission theory with Gaussian distribution of the barrier heights due to the inhomogeneous barrier height at the A1/Ti/4H-SiC interface. The effective Richardson constant A* = 154 A/cm2 . K2 is determined by means of a modified Richardson plot In(I0/T2) - (qσ)2/2(κT)2 versus q/kT, which is very close to the theoretical value 146 A/cm2 · K2.  相似文献
