Orbifolds, Sheaves and Groupoids

We characterize orbifolds in terms of their sheaves, and show that orbifolds correspond exactly to a specific class of smooth groupoids. As an application, we construct fibered products of orbifolds and prove a change-of-base formula for sheaf cohomology.

Coverings and Ring-Groupoids

We prove that the set of homotopy classes of the paths in a topological ring is a ring object (called ring groupoid). Using this concept we show that the ring structure of a topological ring lifts to a simply connected covering space.

On Weak Regular ^＊-semigroups

In this paper, a special kind of partial algebras called projective partial groupoids is defined.It is proved that the inverse image of all projections of a fundamental weak regular ^*-semigroup under the homomorphism induced by the maximum idempotent-separating congruence of a weak regular ^*-semigroup has a projective partial groupoid structure. Moreover, a weak regular ^*-product which connects a fundamental weak regular ^*-semigroup with corresponding projective partial groupoid is defined and characterized. It is finally proved that every weak regular ^*-product is in fact a weak regular ^*-semigroup and any weak regular ^*-semigroup is constructed in this way.     

Lie Groupoids, Gerbes, and Non-Abelian Cohomology

We observe that any regular Lie groupoid G over a manifold M fits into an extension K G E of a foliation groupoid E by a bundle of connected Lie groups K. If F is the foliation on M given by the orbits of E and T is a complete transversal to F , this extension restricts to T, as an extension K _T G _T E _T of an étale groupoid E _T by a bundle of connected groups K _T . We break up the classification problem for regular Lie groupoids into two parts. On the one hand, we classify the latter extensions of étale groupoids by (non-Abelian) cohomology classes in a new ech cohomology of étale groupoids. On the other hand, given K and E and an extension K _T G _T E _T over T, we present a cohomological obstruction to the problem of whether this is the restriction of an extension K G E over M; if this obstruction vanishes, all extensions K G E over M which restrict to a given extension over the transversal together form a principal bundle over a group of bitorsors under K.     

On the Action of a Groupoid on a Manifold

In this paper,some properties of reduction for symplectic F-spaces are discussed.The properties of stable subgroups are discussed.We find that the symplectic action of a symplectic groupoid on a symplectic manifold can induce a symplectic map between reduced symplectic manifolds.This symplectic action can be characterized by the action of its induced symplectic groupoid on a symplectic manifold.Lastly,we shall discuss Poisson reduction and give a Poisson reduction theorem.     

A Homotopy 2-Groupoid of a Hausdorff Space

If X is a Hausdorff space we construct a 2-groupoid G ₂ X with the following properties. The underlying category of G ₂ X is the `path groupoid" of X whose objects are the points of X and whose morphisms are equivalence classes f, g of paths f, g in X under a relation of thin relative homotopy. The groupoid of 2-morphisms of G ₂ X is a quotient groupoid X / N X, where X is the groupoid whose objects are paths and whose morphisms are relative homotopy classes of homotopies between paths. N X is a normal subgroupoid of X determined by the thin relative homotopies. There is an isomorphism G ₂ X(f,f) ₂(X, f(0)) between the 2-endomorphism group of f and the second homotopy group of X based at the initial point of the path f. The 2-groupoids of function spaces yield a 2-groupoid enrichment of a (convenient) category of pointed spaces.We show how the 2-morphisms may be regarded as 2-tracks. We make precise how cubical diagrams inhabited by 2-tracks can be pasted.     

Cayley color graphs of inverse semigroups and groupoids

The notion of Cayley color graphs of groups is generalized to inverse semigroups and groupoids. The set of partial automorphisms of the Cayley color graph of an inverse semigroup or a groupoid is isomorphic to the original inverse semigroup or groupoid. The groupoid of color permuting partial automorphisms of the Cayley color graph of a transitive groupoid is isomorphic to the original groupoid.
