Finite element analysis of fluid flow with moving free surface has been performed in 2‐D and 3‐D. The new VOF‐based numerical algorithm that has been proposed by the present authors (Int. J. Numer. Meth. Fluids, submitted) was applied to several 2‐D and 3‐D free surface flow problems. The proposed free surface tracking scheme is based on two numerical tools; the orientation vector to represent the free surface orientation in each cell and the baby‐cell to determine the fluid volume flux at each cell boundary. The proposed numerical algorithm has been applied to 2‐D and 3‐D cavity filling and sloshing problems in order to demonstrate the versatility and effectiveness of the scheme. The proposed numerical algorithm resolved successfully the free surfaces interacting with each other. The simulated results demonstrated applicability of the proposed numerical algorithm to the practical problems of large free surface motion. It has been also demonstrated that the proposed free surface tracking scheme can be easily implemented in any irregular non‐uniform grid systems and can be extended to 3‐D free surface flow problems without additional efforts. The sloshing of inviscid liquid of stratified density in a rectangular tank is analyzed.As the flow is no longer irrotional,the governing equation is found to be quite different from the Laplace equation used for the liquid of constant density.In particular it contains terms of mixed temporal and spatial derivatives.The problem is solved based on the variable separation method and Laplace transform for the constant Vaisala-Brunt frequency.It is found that the stratification of density may have small effects...  相似文献

A volume of fluid (VOF) method is developed combining a first‐order limited downwind scheme with higher order accurate schemes. The method is characterized by retaining a sharp fluid interface and a reduction in numerical diffusion near the interface, but avoids complicated geometrical reconstruction as occurs in most volume tracing algorithms. To demonstrate the accuracy and robustness of the method, a selection of numerical experiments are presented involving a pure advection problem, a water wave impact caused by a dam breaking and liquid sloshing in a partially filled tank. We derive an asymptotic formula for the amplitude distribution in a fully nonlinear shallow-water solitary wave train which is formed as the long-time outcome of the initial-value problem for the Su–Gardner (or one-dimensional Green–Naghdi) system. Our analysis is based on the properties of the characteristics of the associated Whitham modulation system which describes an intermediate “undular bore” stage of the evolution. The resulting formula represents a “non-integrable” analogue of the well-known semi-classical distribution for the Korteweg–de Vries equation, which is usually obtained through the inverse scattering transform. Our analytical results are shown to agree with the results of direct numerical simulations of the Su–Gardner system. Our analysis can be generalised to other weakly dispersive, fully nonlinear systems which are not necessarily completely integrable.  相似文献

A liquid sloshing absorber consists of a container, partially filled with liquid. The absorber is attached to the structure to be controlled, and relies on the structure’s motion to excite the liquid. Consequently, a sloshing wave is produced at the liquid free surface within the absorber, possessing energy dissipative qualities. The behaviour of liquid sloshing absorbers has been well documented, although their use in structural control applications has attracted considerably less attention.  相似文献

The viscoelastic plate-fluid interaction problem was studied. Forced vibration of the interactive system was investigated, and the equivalent mechanical models were obtained. The conclusion is that, for some case, the inner damping of the viscoelastic baffle will play a major role for liquid sloshing suppression. Variational methods of solving dynamic problems for fluid-containing bodies   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A variational approach to solving linear and nonlinear problems for a body with cavities partially filled with a perfect incompressible fluid is enunciated. The approach applies a nonclassical variational principle to describe the spatial motion of a finite fluid with a free surface and the classical variational principle, which is widely used in rigid body dynamics. These principles are used to formulate variational problems that are the basis of direct methods of solving nonlinear and linear dynamic problems for body-fluid systems. The approach allows us to derive an infinite system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations describing the joint motion of the rigid body and fluid and to develop an algorithm for determining the hydrodynamic coefficients. The sloshing problem is considered in a half-space covered by a rigid dock with apertures. The dependence of the fundamental sloshing frequency on the shape of the free surface region is studied. It is proved that the inequality holds between the fundamental eigenvalues corresponding to two different regions if some conditions are fulfilled. These conditions are verified for particular classes of regions of a fixed area in order to demonstrate that the disk yields the maximum of the fundamental eigenvalue for each of these classes. On the other hand, examples of regions are constructed for which the fundamental eigenfrequency is larger than that for the circular aperture of the same area and even as large as one wishes.
