In this paper we investigate the influence of viscous dissipation and Soret effect on natural convection heat and mass transfer from vertical cone in a non-Darcy porous media saturated with non-Newtonian fluid. The surface of the cone and the ambient medium are maintained at constant but different levels of temperature and concentration. The Ostwald-de Waele power law model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. The governing equations are non-dimensionalized into non-similar form and then solved numerically by local non-similarity method. The effect of non-Darcy parameter, viscous dissipation parameter, Soret parameter, buoyancy ratio, Lewis number and the power-law index parameter on the temperature and concentration field as well as on the heat and mass transfer coefficients is analyzed.  相似文献

The effect of power law index parameter of the non-Newtonian fluid on free convection heat and mass transfer from a vertical wall is analyzed by considering double dispersion in a non-Darcy porous medium with constant wall temperature and concentration conditions. The Ostwald–de Waele power law model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. In this case a similarity solution is possible. The variation of heat and mass transfer coefficients with the governing parameters such as power law index, thermal and solutal dispersion parameters, inertia parameter, buoyancy ratio, and the Lewis number is discussed for a wide range of values of these parameters.  相似文献

In this article, the non-isothermal Poiseuille flow and its stability in a vertical annulus filled with porous medium are investigated. The flow is induced by external pressure gradient and buoyancy force due to linearly varying inner wall temperature. The non-Darcy model along with Boussinesq approximation has been used. The Chebyshev spectral-collocation method has been adopted to solve the governing equations related to basic flow as well as its stability. Special attention is given to understand the effect of curvature parameter of the annular geometry on the flow, heat transfer rate and stability of the stably stratified flow. A comprehensive numerical experiment indicates that reducing gap between two concentric cylinders decreases the heat transfer rate as well as the maximum magnitude of the flow velocity. It stabilizes the flow which has been shown through stability analysis. Furthermore, appropriateness of the Forchheimer term in the momentum equation has been examined by investigating the flow regime as well as its stability in the presence and absence of Forchheimer term. Finally, it has been found from the energy analysis at critical point that the thermal-buoyant instability is the only mode of instability for the considered range of different parameters.  相似文献

The problem of non-Darcy natural convection adjacent to a vertical cylinder embedded in a thermally stratified porous medium has been analyzed. Nonsimilarity solutions are obtained for the case that the ambient temperature increases linearly with height of the cylinder. A generalized flow model was used in the present study to include the effects of the macroscopic viscous term and the microscopic inertial force. Also, the thermal dispersion effect is considered in the energy equation. Thus, the main aim of this work is to examine the effects of thermal stratification and non-Darcy flow phenomena on the free convection flow and heat transfer characteristics. It was found that the present problem depends on six parameters, namely, the local thermal stratification parameter ξ, the boundary effect parameter Bp, the modified Grashof number Gr*, wall temperature exponent m, the curvature parameter ω, and the modified Rayleigh number based on pore diameter Ra d . The impacts of these governing parameters on the local heat transfer parameter are discussed in great detail. Also, representative velocity and temperature profiles are presented at selected values of the thermal stratification parameter. In general, the local heat transfer parameter is increased with increasing the values of m, ω, and Ra d ; while it is decreased with increasing the values of ξ, Bp, and Gr*. An analysis is performed for non-Darcy free convection flow of an electrically conducting fluid over an impermeable vertical plate embedded in a thermally stratified, fluid saturated porous medium for the case of power-law surface temperature. The present work examines the effects of non-Darcian flow phenomena, variable viscosity, Hartmann–Darcy number and thermal stratification on free convective transport and demonstrates the variation in heat transfer prediction based on three different flow models. The wall effect on porosity variation is approximated by an exponential function. The effects of thermal dispersion and variable stagnant thermal conductivity are taken into consideration in the energy equation. The resulting non-similar system of equations is solved using a finite difference method. Results are presented for velocity, temperature profiles and local Nusselt number for representative values of different controlling parameters.  相似文献

A numerical model is presented to study the effects of temperature-dependent viscosity and variable thermal conductivity on mixed convection problem. Two important types of wall heating conditions namely, prescribed surface temperature and prescribed wall heat flux which arise in polymer industries are considered. The problem is solved numerically by using the fifth-order Runge–Kutta Fehlberg method with shooting technique. It is found that the Prandtl number is to decrease the skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number. The effects of non-uniform heat source/sink and porous parameter are analyzed on velocity, temperature, skin friction co-efficient, Nusselt and Sherwood numbers.  相似文献

In this paper we analyse how the presence of inertia (Forchheimerform-drag) affects the steady free convective boundary layer flow over anupward-facing horizontal surface embedded in a porous medium. The surfacetemperature is assumed to display a power-law variation,x n with distance from the leading edge, x. It is shown thatthere are three distinct cases to consider: n<0.5, n=0.5 and0.5相似文献

The present study is devoted to investigate the influences of viscous dissipation on buoyancy induced flow over a horizontal or a vertical flat plate embedded in a non-Newtonian fluid saturated porous medium. The Ostwald-de Waele power-law model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. Similarity solutions for the transformed governing equations are obtained with prescribed variable surface temperature (PT) or with prescribed variable surface heat flux (PHF) for the horizontal plate case. While, the similarity solutions are obtained with prescribed variable surface heat flux for the vertical plate case. Different similar transformations, for each case, are used. Numerical results for the details of the velocity and temperature profiles are shown on graphs. Nusselt number associated with temperature distributions and excess surface temperature associated with heat flux distributions which are entered in tables have been presented for different values of the power-law index n and the exponent as well as Eckert number.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the variable viscosity effects on non-Darcy free or mixed convection flow on a vertical surface in a fluid saturated porous medium. The viscosity of the fluid is assumed to be a inverse linear function of temperature. Velocity and heat transfer are found to be significantly affected by the variable viscosity parameter, Ergun number, Peclet number or Rayleigh number.  相似文献
