The effect of two strong salting-out salts (Na2SO4 and K2SO4) on the temperature-induced phase-separation process in aqueous solutions of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPA) was examined by attenuated total reflectance/Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and viscosity measurements. On the basis of these measurements, a detailed scenario of the phase-separation process was deduced. The phase-separation scenario of solutions containing PNIPA and water was altered in the presence of sulfate ions. Here, the sulfate ions induced partial intrachain collapse, manifested by a relatively compact structure well below the lower critical solution temperature. This led to a more gradual, smooth phase transition, with temperature-resolved intrachain collapse and interchain aggregation and a lesser extent of hysteresis. Although at the macrolevel one may not be able to differentiate among various scenarios altering the solvent into a poor solvent, the aforementioned microlevel measurements provided a way to expose the difference between raising the temperature and adding cosolutes. Summary  In the aqueous solutions of poly(N-vinylacetamide) in the presence of Na2SO4 or (NH4)2SO4, the intrinsic viscosities were small and the Huggins constants were large compared with those in water. Similar but much less effects were observed for NaF. Opposite effects were found, however, for NaSCN. The poor solvent quality of aqueous sulfate solutions was significantly improved by the addition of guanidine hydrochloride to 3 M or higher. Urea was much less effective in improving the solvent quality. The different M28.8neffects observed between urea and GdnHCl may be explained by their different binding affinities to amide group. Solubilization of PNVA flocculates induced by the presence of 0.8 M Na2SO4 took place by adding urea to 1 M, although only small changes were detected in the viscosity behavior accompanying the addition of 1 M urea. The ability to achieve high areal capacitance for oxide-based supercapacitor electrodes with high active mass loadings is critical for practical applications. This paper reports the feasibility of the fabrication of Mn3O4-multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites by the new salting-out method, which allows direct particle transfer from an aqueous synthesis medium to a 2-propanol suspension for the fabrication of advanced Mn3O4-MWCNT electrodes for supercapacitors. The electrodes show enhanced capacitive performance at high active mass loading due to reduced particle agglomeration and enhanced mixing of the Mn3O4 particles and conductive MWCNT additives. The strategy is based on the multifunctional properties of octanohydroxamic acid, which is used as a capping and dispersing agent for Mn3O4 synthesis and an extractor for particle transfer to the electrode processing medium. Electrochemical studies show that high areal capacitance is achieved at low electrode resistance. The electrodes with an active mass of 40.1 mg cm−2 show a capacitance of 4.3 F cm−2 at a scan rate of 2 mV s−1. Electron microscopy studies reveal changes in electrode microstructure during charge-discharge cycling, which can explain the increase in capacitance. The salting-out method is promising for the development of advanced nanocomposites for energy storage in supercapacitors.  相似文献

Fipronil is an insecticide that is not approved in the European Union in food. In 2017, fipronil was involved in a European health alert due to its presence in fresh hen eggs because of an illicit use in poultry farms, so reliable methods are needed to determine fipronil and its main metabolites in these matrixes. In this work, we report the first approach to the study of fipronil and two metabolites, fipronil-sulfone and fipronil-sulfide by CE. MEKC mode was employed using a solution of 50 mM ammonium perfluorooctanoate pH 9.0 with 10% (v/v) methanol as background electrolyte. The proposed method was combined with a simple sample treatment based on salting-out assisted LLE (SALLE) using acetonitrile as extraction solvent and ammonium sulfate as salt. The SALLE–MEKC–UV method allowed the simultaneous quantification of fipronil and fipronil-sulfone. Validation parameters yielded satisfactory results, with precision, expressed as relative SD, below 14% and recoveries higher than 83%. Limits of detection were 90 µg/kg for fipronil and 150 µg/kg for fipronil-sulfone, so in terms of sensitivity further studies of sample treatments allowing extra preconcentration or the use of more sensitive detection, such as MS, would be needed.  相似文献

An efficient blood plasma clean-up method was developed, where methanol protein precipitation was applied, followed by zirconium silicate assisted exclusion of residual proteins. A strong binding of zirconium (IV) silicate to the proteins enabled the elimination of remaining proteins after solvent deproteinization through a rapid solid-phase extraction (SPE) procedure. Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI/TOF MS) was used for monitoring the proteins during clean-up practice applied to human plasma samples. The proteins were quantified by colorimetric detection using the bicinchoninic acid (BCA) assay. The presented analytical strategy resulted in the depletion of >99.6% proteins from human plasma samples. Furthermore, high-performance liquid chromatography hyphenated to diode-array and electrospray ionization mass spectrometric detection (HPLC–DAD/ESI MS) was applied for qualitative and quantitative analysis of the caffeoylquinic acids (CQAs) and their metabolites in human plasma. The procedure demonstrated high recoveries for the standard compounds spiked at different concentrations. Cynarin and chlorogenic acid were recovered in the range of 81–86% and 78–83%, respectively. Caffeic acid was extracted in the excess of 89–92%, while ferulic acid and dihydroxyhydrocinnamic acid showed a recovery of 87–91% and 92–95%, respectively. The method was partially validated in accordance with FDA-Industry Guidelines for Bioanalytical Method Validation (2001). The presented scheme improves the clean-up efficacy of the methanol deproteinization, significantly reduces the matrix effects and provides a great analytical tool for the isolation of small molecules from human plasma.  相似文献

The calculations of Setchenow coefficients reported earlier [H. L. Friedman, C. V. Krishnan, and C. Jolicoeur,Ann. N.Y. Acad. Sci. 204, 79 (1973)] have been extended to aqueous solutions of various nonelectrolytes mixed with alkali or alkylammonium halides. A few data for Setchenow coefficients in methanol have also been treated. The GurneyA ij parameters for nonelectrolyte-ion interactions in models which fit the data are mostly negative, and more so the larger the solute molecules. A value ofA ij near-100 cal-mole–1 seems to characterize hydrophobic bonding. In several systems these is evidence that some nonsolvation contribution to theu ij pair potential which is not explicitly accounted for in the models is important in the real systems. Quite possibly this contribution is due to dispersion forces or to the chargepolarizability interaction. On the whole, theA ij parameters do not seem to depend upon the charges on solute particlesi andj; this is evidence that the model is fairly realistic.  相似文献

For cyclopentane used as a model hydrocarbon, solubility in water and aqueous solutions of various salts (chlorides, bromides, iodides, rhodanides, alkali metal acetates and sulfates, and calcium and zinc chlorides) at 20±1°C has been determined. Variations of the increment of the methylene group ( ) induced by salt additions to water, are calculated. When the salt is added to the solution, the increment increases drastically irrespective of the nature of the ions, thus stabilizing the structure of the solution. The increase, however, depends significantly on the nature of the salt, which is explained by different degrees of structuring of the aqueous solution caused by the ions of the salts.  相似文献

The inapplicability of the original statement of Raoult's law to binary solvent mixtures has been known for many years. An appropriate form for binary solvent mixtures is developed from the fundamental thermodynamic concept of fugacity, and is shown to be quantitatively applicable to the water+tetrahydrofuran solvent system and qualitatively applicable to the results which have been obtained for other aqueous organic solvent mixtures.  相似文献

When the sodium ion (Na+) concentration is increased above 0.5 mol-dm−3 (M), the concentrations of dissolved silica in aqueous sodium chloride (NaCl) and sodium nitrate (NaNO3) solutions decrease because of the salting out effect. On the other hand, the concentration of the dissolved silica in aqueous sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) solutions increases monotonously as the concentration of Na+ is increased above 0.5 M. The purpose of this study is to determine the reasons why the salting-out effect is not observed in Na2SO4 solutions. FAB-MS (Fast Atom Bombardment Mass Spectrometry) was used to sample directly the silica species dissolved in aqueous Na2SO4, NaCl, and NaNO3 solutions. In the FAB-MS spectra of these solutions, the peak intensity ratios of the linear tetramer to the cyclic tetramer largely increased for Na+ concentrations between (0.1 and 1) M. This shows that some characteristics of the Na2SO4 solutions are similar to those of the NaCl and NaNO3 solutions. In Na2SO4 solutions, however, when the concentration of Na+ is higher than 1 M, the peak intensity of the dimer is much higher than those of the other silicate complexes. In Na2SO4 solutions, the SO42− ion undergoes partial hydrolysis to form HSO4 and OH is produced. In particular, in the range where the concentration of SO42− is high, the pH of the solution increases slightly. This higher pH yields more dimers from the hydrolysis of silicate complexes. This increase in dimer production agrees with the observation that silica dissolves in sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solutions mainly as a dimer when the concentration of NaOH is less than 0.1 M. In Na2SO4 solutions at high concentrations, a salting-out effect is not observed for silica. This is due to the increase in the concentration of OH, which accelerates the hydrolysis of silica and results in dimer formation.  相似文献
