 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) was used to investigate the extrusion behaviour of PTFE pastes in a ram extruder. By means of 1H-NMR imaging (MRI) it is possible to determine the local proton density and therefore, the local fluid concentration. The 19F-MRI provides the local solid concentration. Thus the local saturation and the local porosity can be calculated with the information of the local fluid and solid concentration. Furthermore displacement profiles can be derived from NMR images by means of correlation techniques without any preparation or marking of the pastes. The spin-1 Ising model, which is equivalent to the three-component lattice gas model, is used to study wetting transitions in three-component surfactant systems consisting of an oil, water, and a nonionic surfactant. Phase equilibria, interfacial profiles, and interfacial tensions for three-phase equilibrium are determined in mean field approximation, for a wide range of temperature and interaction parameters. Surfactant interaction parameters are found to strongly influence interfacial tensions, reducing them in some cases to ultralow values. Interfacial tensions are used to determine whether the middle phase, rich in surfactant, wets or does not wet the interface between the oil-rich and water-rich phases. By varying temperature and interaction parameters, a wetting transition is located and found to be of the first order. Comparison is made with recent experimental results on wetting transitions in ternary surfactant systems.This paper is dedicated to J. K. Percus in honor of his 65th birthday.  相似文献

Stochastic optimal control techniques are applied to compare the performance of identical medium-range air-to-air missiles which have different thrust-mass profiles. The measure of the performance is the probability of reaching a lock-on-point with a favorable range of guidance and flight parameters, during a fixed time interval [0,t f ], given that, during the flight, the trajectories of the missile are subjected to a variety of constraints including dynamic pressure constraints.  相似文献

Summary Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) is a rapid, reliable and inexpensive screening technique for diagnosis of inherited metabolic diseases (IMD). Our screening program encompasses five main situations where the use of TLC is considered to be vindicated: (i) analysis of amino acids; (ii) screening for sugar defects; (iii) detection of pathological oligosaccharidurias; (iv) screening for organic acid disorders; and (v) detection of abnormalities in tryptophan metabolism. The microcalorimetric method was used to calculate the metabolic enthalpy change per mol of glucose degraded by soil microorganisms, ΔH met. This parameter has been calculated by microcalorimetry for many organic, inorganic and biochemical reactions, but there is only some information about its quantification for microbial growth reactions in soils. Values of ΔH met were calculated for different soil samples collected in Galicia (Spain) and Campinas (Săo Paolo, Brazil). Exponential microbial growth was stimulated in all soil samples by the addition of glucose and power-time curves were recorded. Results showed changes in the values of ΔH met calculated for all the soil samples, suggesting a dependence of this value with the microbial growth rate constant, with the percentage of growth, with the initial number of microorganisms of soil samples, with the quantity of glucose added and with the strain of bacteria growing in soil. The interpretation of variations of ΔH met provides important qualitative and quantitative information. It reports data that allow to interpret from a qualitative point of view, the increase in biomass as a consequence of the degradation of the organic matter in soil, to understand changes in the percentages of soil organic matter and to know if the microbial population growing in differential soil samples is homogeneous. Therefore, to report that value would be very important in ecological studies, but beforehand, it is necessary to solve some problems that can appear in the experiments done to make the quantification . Redox reactions are still a challenge for biochemical engineers. A personal view for the development of this field is given. Cofactor regeneration was an obstacle for quite some time. The first technical breakthrough was achieved with the system formate/formate dehydrogenase for the regeneration of NADH2. In cases where the same enzyme could be used for chiral reduction as well as for cofactor regeneration, isopropanol as a hydrogen source proved to be beneficial. The coproduct (acetone) can be removed by pervaporation. Whole-cell reductions (often yeast reductions) can also be used. By proper biochemical reaction engineering, it is possible to apply these systems in a continuous way. By cloning a formate dehydrogenase and an oxidoreductase "designer bug" can be obtained where formate is used instead of glucose as the hydrogen source. Complex sequences of redox reactions can be established by pathway engineering with a focus on gene overexpression or with a focus on establishing non-natural pathways. The success of pathway engineering can be controlled by measuring cytosolic metabolite concentrations. The optimal exploitation of such systems calls for the integrated cooperation of classical and molecular biochemical engineering.  相似文献

Adsorption data of an organic cation (propranololium chloride) and an organic anion (sodium 1-naphthalene sulfonate) were measured by frontal analysis on two RPLC adsorbents, Symmetry-C18 and XTerra-C18, with aqueous solutions of methanol as the mobile phases. The influence of supporting neutral salts on the adsorption behavior of these two ions are compared. The Henry constants are close (H approximately 5). The four sets of isotherm data are all well accounted for using the bi-Moreau model. However, the isotherms of the two ions behave differently at high concentrations. The initial behaviors of all the isotherms are antilangmuirian but remain so in a much wider concentration range for the cation than for the anion, due to its stronger adsorbate-adsorbate interactions on the low-energy adsorption sites. The retention times of both ions increase with increasing concentration of neutral salt in the mobile phase, suggesting the formation of ion-pair complexes, with Cl- for the cation and with Na+ for the anion. The adsorbate-adsorbate interactions vanish in the presence of salt and the bi-Moreau isotherm model tends toward a bi-Langmuir model. Differences in adsorption behavior are also observed between the cation and the anion when bivalent inorganic anions and cations, respectively, are dissolved in the mobile phase. High concentration band profiles of 1-naphthalene sulfonic acid are langmuirian, except in the presence of a trivalent cation, while those of propranolol are antilangmuirian under certain conditions even with uni- or divalent cations.  相似文献

The Saccharomyces strains uvarum, montuliensis, bayanus, capensis and florentinus were grown in liquid media prepared from a 1% aqueous glucose solution to which 0.05% of ammonium sulfate or urea were added as the only nitrogen supply. The amino acids exuded during incubation were isolated by cation exchange and derivatized as the corresponding N,O-heptafluorobutyryl isopropyl esters. Separation was achieved on a highly deactivated glass capillary column coated with OV-101. A characteristic amino acid profile was obtained for each of the species studied, allowing the construction of a chemotaxonomic tree, on the basis of present or absent acids.  相似文献

The adsorption isotherms of 4-tert.-butyl phenol were measured on four different monolithic columns, using three different techniques, classical frontal analysis (FA), the perturbation on a plateau method (PP) and the recently introduced numerical procedure known as the inverse numerical method (IN). This last approach requires only the recording of a few overloaded profiles and has the potential advantage of affording a dramatic decrease of the amounts of compounds, solvent, and time needed to determine accurate estimates of the coefficients of the isotherm. The reproducibility of the adsorption data measured on the four columns is discussed with reference to the specific techniques used for obtaining these data and to the most suitable equation used for modeling them. The data obtained for the different columns were highly consistent. The inverse numerical approach was confirmed to provide a powerful, accurate, and economic method for measuring single component adsorption data.  相似文献
