Observation of diffractive b-quark production at the fermilab tevatron

We report a measurement of the fraction of b quarks produced diffractively in &pmacr;p collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV. Diffraction is identified by the absence of particles in a forward pseudorapidity region. From events with an electron of transverse momentum 9.5相似文献   

Search for color singlet technicolor particles in p&pmacr; collisions at radicals = 1.8 TeV

We search for color singlet technirho and technipion production in p&pmacr; collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. These exotic technimesons are present in a model of walking technicolor. The signatures studied are lepton plus two jets plus E(T) and multijet final states. No excess of events is seen in either final state. We set an upper limit on the technirho production cross section and exclude a region in the technipion mass versus technirho mass plane.     

Diffractive dijets with a leading antiproton in &pmacr;p collisions at sqrt

We report results from a study of events with a leading antiproton of beam momentum fraction 0.9057 GeV. Using the dijet events, we evaluate the diffractive structure function of the antiproton and compare it with expectations based on results obtained in diffractive deep inelastic scattering experiments at the DESY ep collider HERA.     

Formal Synthesis of Sarain A: Intramolecular Cycloaddition of an Eight‐Membered Cyclic Nitrone to Construct the 2‐Azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane Framework

An enantioselective route to the tetracyclic skeleton of sarain A has been developed. Asymmetric reduction of an ynone introduced a chiral center which was transferred to the contiguous tertiary stereogenic centers through an Ireland–Claisen rearrangement. The 2‐azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane framework was constructed by an unprecedented intramolecular cycloaddition of an eight‐membered cyclic nitrone. Using the steric bias of the bicyclic system, the quaternary carbon atom was constructed by a stereoselective aldol reaction. Further ring formations were performed by ring‐closing metathesis for the 13‐membered ring and an iodoamidation reaction for the pyrrolidine ring. The present synthesis has successfully provided an alternative route to the late‐stage intermediate of Overman’s synthesis.     

Colored supramolecular charge-transfer host system using 10,10′-dihydroxy-9,9′-biphenanthryl and 2,5-disubstituted-1,4-benzoquinone

A colored charge-transfer (CT) host complex is formed using racemic (rac)-10,10′-dihydroxy-9,9′-biphenanthryl, which has a large and widely π-conjugated phenanthrene ring, as the electron donor and 2,5-disubstituted-1,4-benzoquinone as the electron acceptor. This CT host complex can include aromatic molecules as guests and its color and diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS) change according to the type of guest molecules included. Characteristically, it is possible to tune the color and DRS of the inclusion CT complex by changing the type of the component 2,5-disubstituted-1,4-benzoquinone.     

Measurement of the decay amplitudes of B0 --> J/psiK*0 and B(s)(0) --> J/psistraight phi decays

An angular analysis of B0-->J/psiK(*0) and B(0)(s)-->J/psistraight phi has been used to determine the decay amplitudes with parity-even longitudinal ( A0) and transverse ( A( parallel)) polarization and parity-odd transverse ( A( perpendicular)) polarization. The measurements are based on 190 B0 and 40 B(0)(s) candidates obtained from 89 pb(-1) of &pmacr;p collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron. The longitudinal decay amplitude dominates with |A0|(2) = 0.59+/-0. 06+/-0.01 for B0 and |A0|(2) = 0.61+/-0.14+/-0.02 for B(0)(s) decays. The parity-odd amplitude is found to be small with |A( perpendicular)|(2) = 0.13(+0.12)(-0.09)+/-0.06 for B0 and |A( perpendicular)|(2) = 0.23+/-0.19+/-0.04 for B(0)(s) decays.     

Measurement of b-quark fragmentation fractions in p&pmacr; collisions at sqrt

We have studied the production of B hadrons in 1.8-TeV pp[over ˉ] collisions. We present measurements of the fragmentation fractions, f_{u}, f_{d}, f_{s}, and f_{baryon}, of produced b quarks that yield B^{+}, B^{0}, B_{s}^{0}, and Λ[over ˉ]_{b}^{0} hadrons. Reconstruction of five electron-charm final states yields f_{s}/( f_{u}+f_{d})=0.213±0.068 and f_{baryon}/( f_{u}+f_{d})=0.118±0.042, assuming f_{u}=f_{d}. If all B hadrons produced in pp[over ˉ] collisions cascade to one of these four hadrons, we determine f_{u}=f_{d}=0.375±0.023, f_{s}=0.160±0.044, and f_{baryon}=0.090±0.029. If we do not assume f_{u}=f_{d}, we find f_{d}/f_{u}=0.84±0.16.     

Search for new particles decaying to t&tmacr; in p&pmacr; collisions at radicals = 1.8 TeV

We use 106 pb (-1) of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab to search for narrow-width, vector particles decaying to a top and an antitop quark. Model independent upper limits on the cross section for narrow, vector resonances decaying to t&tmacr; are presented. At the 95% confidence level, we exclude the existence of a leptophobic Z' boson in a model of top-color-assisted technicolor with mass M(Z')<480 GeV/c(2) for natural width gamma = 0.012M(Z'), and M(Z')<780 GeV/c(2) for gamma = 0.04M(Z').     

Search for second and third generation leptoquarks including production via technicolor interactions in p&pmacr; collisions at radicals = 1.8 TeV

We report the results of a search for second and third generation leptoquarks using 88 pb(-1) of data recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. Color triplet technipions, which play the role of scalar leptoquarks, are investigated due to their potential production in decays of strongly coupled color octet technirhos. Events with a signature of two heavy flavor jets and missing energy may indicate the decay of a second (third) generation leptoquark to a charm (bottom) quark and a neutrino. As the data are found to be consistent with standard model expectations, mass limits are determined.     

Phase transitions in the hydroquinone hydrogen sulfide clathrate compound

Heat capacities of [C₆H₄(OH)₂]₃·(H₂S) _x were measured between 1 and 15 K. Heat capacity peaks were found at (7.56±0.09) K, (7.61±0.05) K, and (7.65±0.07) K for the compounds withx=0.92, 0.95, and 0.96. A weak anomaly was observed around 6.75 K for the compound withx=0.85. The temperatures of these anomalies are unusually low among the phase transitions of molecular crystals. The decrease of the transition temperature from that of crystalline H₂S (=103.52 K) is a clear indication of the effect of enclathration on the molecular interaction. A comparison of the rotational heat capacity of the trapped hydrogen sulfide molecules with that of crystalline hydrogen sulfide shows that the trapped hydrogen sulfide molecules have a large rotational freedom at low temperatures (13 K). This agrees with the results from far infrared spectroscopic data. The dielectric constant of the clathrate compound obeyed the Curie-Weiss law above 30 K and no significant dielectric loss was found over the whole temperature range. These results showed that the trapped hydrogen sulfide molecules execute free rotation or are orientationally disordered above 20 K.Dedicated to Professor H. M. Powell.
