A note on a forcing related to the S‐space problem in the extension with a coherent Suslin tree

One of the main problems about is that whether a coherent Suslin tree forces that there are no S‐spaces under . We analyze a forcing notion related to this problem, and show that under , S forces that every topology on ω₁ generated by a basis in the ground model is not an S‐topology. This supplements the previous work due to Stevo Todor?evi? [25].

Nonbubble‐Propelled Biodegradable Microtube Motors Consisting Only of Protein

This paper describes the synthesis of protein microtube motors having a urease interior surface and highlights their nonbubble‐propelled behavior driven by enzymatic reaction (urea→NH₃ and CO₂). The precursor microtubes were prepared by layer‐by‐layer assembly using a track‐etched microporous polycarbonate membrane. Immobilization of a urease on the internal wall was accomplished using avidin–biotin interaction. The tubules swam smoothly in an aqueous media containing a physiological concentration of urea. Each tubule was rotating laterally while moving forward. It is remarkable that the microtubes were digested completely by proteases, demonstrating perfect biodegradability.     

Oxidation of Dimethyl Sulfide in Air Using Electron-Beam Irradiation,and Enhancement of its Oxidation Via an MnO<Subscript>2</Subscript> Catalyst

The decomposition of dimethyl sulfide (DMS) at initial concentrations of 4.5–18.0 ppmv in air was studied under electron-beam (EB) irradiation. Doses to decompose 90% of input DMS were 2.5 kGy for 4.5 ppmv, 3.4 kGy for 10.6 ppmv, and 3.9 kGy for 18.0 ppmv. HCOOH, (CH₃)₂SO, and trace CH₃OH and (CH₃)₂SO₂ were produced as irradiation products in addition to CO₂ and CO. Application of an O₃ decomposition catalyst to an irradiated sample gas led to an enhancement in the oxidation of DMS and its products into CO₂ and the decomposition of O₃. For 10.6 ppmv DMS/air, the mineralization ratio increased from 41% via only EB irradiation to 100% via the combination treatment at 6.3 kGy. The yield of CO₂ to CO_x increased from 5.3 to 87.6% by combination with catalytic oxidation. This combination treatment enables the irradiation energy used to deodorize gas streams containing DMS to be reduced.     

Study of the acute cardiovascular effects of several antihypertensive agents with the measurement of plasma catecholamines in mice

A highly sensitive determination method was established for catecholamines (norepinephrine (NE), epinephrine, and dopamine) with high-performance liquid chromatography-peroxyoxalate chemiluminescence reaction detection. In this study, the method was applied to mouse plasma, and it was determined that only 10 μl of mouse plasma was necessary for the selective and reproducible determination of catecholamines. Studies were then conducted in acute cardiovascular effects of sodium nitroprusside, nicardipine, captopril (angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor), candesartan, and olmesartan (type 1 angiotensin receptor antagonists (AT₁ antagonists)) by this method. Sodium nitroprusside and nicardipine elevated plasma NE concentrations significantly, whereas the ACE inhibitor and the AT₁ antagonists did not change plasma NE concentrations in anesthetized mice. These results suggested that angiotensin II-induced augmentation may be mainly carried through the central baroreflex pathway.
