This paper reports on the first experimental observation of quantum-well states and sp-type resonances in thin single-crystal gold, silver, and copper layers formed on single-crystal W(110) surfaces, which result from spatial localization of Bloch-type electronic wave functions in a quantum well with potential barriers at the vacuum/metal and metal/W(110) interfaces. The quantization of the valence-band electronic structure in Au/W(110), Ag/W(110), and Cu/W(110) systems was studied experimentally using angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy.  相似文献

Photoelectron spectroscopy, low-energy electron diffraction, and scanning probe microscopy were used to investigate the electronic and structural properties of graphite layers grown by solid state graphitization of SiC(0 0 0 1) surfaces. The process leads to well-ordered graphite layers which are rotated against the substrate lattice by 30°. On on-axis 6H-SiC(0 0 0 1) substrates we observe graphitic layers with up to several 100 nm wide terraces. ARUPS spectra of the graphite layers grown on on-axis 6H-SiC(0 0 0 1) surfaces are indicative of a well-developed band structure. For the graphite/n-type 6H-SiC(0 0 0 1) layer system we observe a Schottky barrier height of ?B,n = 0.3 ± 0.1 eV. ARUPS spectra of graphite layers grown on 8° off-axis oriented 4H-SiC(0 0 0 1) show unique replicas which are explained by a carpet-like growth mode combined with a step bunching of the substrate.  相似文献

The cyclotron resonance (CR) problem for electrons over a helium film occupying the lower part of a resonator is solved. This problem is shown to represent an example of the well-known problem on the behavior of a system of coupled oscillators. For such oscillators, the coupling constant is determined as a function of the problem parameters with its minimal value in zero magnetic field and its maximal value at resonance conditions, when the cyclotron frequency coincides with one of the resonator modes. The details of the CR absorption of microwave energy by the coupled system formed by 2D electrons and a resonator are calculated. The results are discussed in application to the known CR experiments with electrons over helium.  相似文献

The origin of the specific activation-type behavior of the mobility of electrons on liquid-helium films with different kinds of substrates is discussed. The characteristic feature of the activation energy E a observed in the experiment is its dependence on the effective film thickness d in the form E ad ?2. Exact cylindrically symmetric solutions are obtained for a class of interacting scalar and vector fields in a rotating Godel Universe. We select those with the properties of solitons with smooth decrease of the fields to asymptotics and those with sharp boundaries (droplets). A spinor field interacting with a zero-mass neutral scalar field is considered for the case of the simplest type of direct interaction, where the interaction Lagrangian has the formL int =1/2 ϕαϕ F(S) whereF(S) is an arbitrary function of the spinor field invariantS=ψψ. Exact solutions of the corresponding systems of equations that take into account the natural gravitational field in a plane-symmetric metric are obtained. It is proved that the initial system of equations has regular localized soliton-type solutions only if the energy density of the zero-mass scalar field is negative as it “disengages” from interaction with the spinor field. In two-dimensional space-time the system of field equations we are studying describes the configuration of fields with constant energy densityT 00 , i.e., no soliton-like solutions exist in this case. We obtain exact plane-symmetric solutions of the spinor field equations with a nonlinear term that is an arbitrary functions of the invariant and with the self-gravitational field taken into account. Conditions are formulated for which the initial system of Einstein's equation and the spinor field equations with a power-law nonlinearity have regular solutions with localized (negative) spinor field energy density: so-called soliton-like solutions. Exact solutions of the spinor field equations are also obtained in flat space—time in this case and it is shown that the initial system of equations does not have soliton-like solutions.
