Geometrical method for determining the surface damage threshold for femtosecond laser pulses

A new geometrical method to determine the surface damage threshold for ultrashort pulses is presented. It consists in the formation of a surface damage profile by a movement of the sample across the laser beam focus. A single measurement of the maximum transversal dimension of this damage profile, which depends solely on the laser beam power, is used to calculate the local damage threshold intensity. It is also theoretically shown that the damage in the transverse dimension can be controlled under the diffraction-limited spot.     

Synthesis of New Dibenzosulfide and Dibenzosulfoxide Macrocyclic Compounds

Some new dibenzosulfo, dibenzosulfoxo macrocyclic diamides are synthesized.

Highly effective and regioselective Michael addition of indoles to α,β-unsaturated ketones promoted by pentafluorophenylammonium triflate

A simple, inexpensive, environmentally friendly and efficient route for Michael addition of indoles to α,β-unsaturated ketones using pentafluorophenylammonium triflate (PFPAT) as a catalyst is described. Various indole derivatives were synthesized in good to excellent yields. The preparation of PFPAT catalyst from simple and readily available starting materials makes this method more affordable.     

Structural,morphological and mechanical properties of niobium nitride thin films grown by ion and electron beams emanated from plasma

The influence of variation in plasma deposition parameters on the structural, morphological and mechanical characteristics of the niobium nitride films grown by plasma-emanated ion and electron beams are investigated. Crystallographic investigation made by X-ray diffractometer shows that the film synthesized at 10?cm axial distance with 15 plasma focus shots (PFS) exhibits better crystallinity when compared to the other deposition conditions. Morphological analysis made by scanning electron microscope reveals a definite granular pattern composed of homogeneously distributed nano-spheroids grown as clustered particles for the film synthesized at 10?cm axial distance for 15 PFS. Roughness analysis demonstrates higher rms roughness for the films synthesized at shorter axial distance and by greater number of PFS. Maximum niobium atomic percentage (35.8) and maximum average hardness (19.4?±?0.4?GPa) characterized by energy-dispersive spectroscopy and nano-hardness analyzer respectively are observed for film synthesized at 10?cm axial distance with 15 PFS.     

Spectrophotometric Study of Complexation of Tri-Aza Dibenzosulfide and Dibenzosulfoxide Macrocyclic Compounds with Heavy Metal Ions

The complexation reactions between 7,10,13-triaza-1-thia-4,16-dioxa-20,24-dimethyl-2,3;17,18-dibenzo-cyclooctadecane-6,14-dione ( TTD ) and 7,10,13-triaza-1-sulfoxo-4,16-dioxa-20,24-dimethyl-2,3;17,18-dibenzo-cyclooctadecane-6,14-dione ( TSD ) macrocycles with Ag⁺, Cd²⁺, Cu²⁺, Pb²⁺, Sr²⁺, Tl⁺, and Zn²⁺ ions have been studied in ethanol and methanol solutions at 25°C. The complexes formed between macrocycles ( TTD ) and ( TSD ) with these metals cations had a stiochiometry of 1:1 and 1:2, respectively. The stability constants of the resulting complexes were determined and found to decrease in the order Cu²⁺ > Zn²⁺ > Ag⁺ > Tl⁺ > Cd²⁺ > Pb²⁺ > Sr²⁺ with macrocycle ( TTD ) and Tl⁺ > Zn²⁺ > Cd²⁺ > Pb²⁺ > Cu²⁺ > Ag⁺ > Sr²⁺ with macrocycle ( TSD ).     

MICROWAVE SYNTHESIS OF TRICHLORFON AND ITS ANALOGUES

The synthesis of dialkyl-(2,2,2-trichloro-1-Hydroxyethyl) phosphonates using dialkyl hydrogen phosphite and chloral hydrate under solvent-free condition by microwave irradiation is reported. The products were chrachetrized using ¹ H NMR, ¹³ C NMR, and ³¹ P NMR spectroscopy.     

SYNTHESIS OF NEW BENZOSULFOXIDE MACROCYCLIC COMPOUNDS

Bis(dibenzosulfoxo)-27,30,35,38-tetramethyl-24-crown-6, bis(dibenzosulfoxo)-21,24,29,32-tetramethyl-18-crown-4, dibenzosulfoxo-15,18-dimethyl-12-crown-3 and dibenzosulfoxo-12,15-dimethyl-9-crown-2 macrocycles are synthesized by the reaction of 2,2′-sulfinyl-bis(4-methyl phenol)and 1,2-dibromoethane and diethyleneglycol di-p-toluenesulfonate.     

MgCl2/Et3N Base System as a New Catalyst for the Synthesis of α‐Hydroxyphosphonate

An efficient and simple synthesis of α‐hydroxyphosphonates via reaction of aldehydes and ketones with dimethylphosphite in the presence of MgCl₂/Et₃N base system is reported. The use of readily available and easy to handle reagent MgCl₂/Et₃N makes this method simple, convenient, and practical.
