C0-estimates and smoothness of solutions to the parabolic equation defined by Kimura operators

Kimura diffusions serve as a stochastic model for the evolution of gene frequencies in population genetics. Their infinitesimal generator is an elliptic differential operator whose second-order coefficients matrix degenerates on the boundary of the domain. In this article, we consider the inhomogeneous initial-value problem defined by generators of Kimura diffusions, and we establish $C^0$-estimates, which allows us to prove that solutions to the inhomogeneous initial-value problem are smooth up to the boundary of the domain where the operator degenerates, even when the initial data is only assumed to be continuous.     

Designing Molecular Printboards: A Photolithographic Platform for Recodable Surfaces

A light induced strategy for the design of β‐cyclodextrin (CD) based supramolecular devices is introduced, presenting a novel tool to fabricate multifunctional biointerfaces. Precision photolithography of a modified β‐CD was established on a light sensitive tetrazole surface immobilized on a bioinspired polydopamine (PDA) anchor layer via various shadow masks, as well as via direct laser writing (DLW), in order to craft any desired printboard design. Interfacial molecular recognition provided by light generated cavitate domains was demonstrated via spatially resolved encoding, erasing, and recoding of distinct supramolecular guest patterns. Thus, the light directed shaping of receptor monolayers introduces a powerful path to control supramolecular assemblies on various surfaces.     

A new approach on MHD natural convection boundary layer flow past a flat plate of finite dimensions

A new approach on MHD natural convection boundary layer flow from a finite flat plate of arbitrary inclination in a rotating environment, is presented. This problem plays a significant role on boundary layer flow control. It is shown that taking into account the pressure rise region at the leading edge of the plate leads to avoid separation and the back flow is reduced by the strong magnetic field. It is also shown that the frictional drag at the leading edge of the plate is reduced when the inclination angle α=π/4. In the case of isothermal flat plate, the bulk temperature becomes identical for any value of Gr (Grashof number) when the value of M ² (Hartmann number) and K ² (rotation parameter) are kept fixed.     

Conjugate natural convection between horizontal concentric cylinders filled with a porous medium

A conjugate problem of natural convection between two horizontal concentric, isothermal cylinders filled with a fluid-saturated porous medium is studied. The flow field and energy equations are solved under the conditions of equality in temperature but with jump in heat flux at the fluid-solid interface. Numerical results by a finite-difference technique are presented for a large variation in the parameters entering the problem. A comparison of the solution with non-conjugate problem is also given.Das konjugierte Problem der freien Konvektion zwischen zwei horizontalen, konzentrischen, isothermen Zylindern, die mit einem fluid-gesättigten porösen Medium gefüllt sind, wurde hier untersucht.Das Strömungsfeld und die Energiegleichung sind unter den Bedingungen gelöst worden, daß die Temperatur gleich ist, aber ein Wärmeflußsprung am Übergang von der Flüssigkeits- zur Festphase stattfindet. Die numerischen Ergebnisse werden mit dem Finite-Differenzen-Verfahren für viele Parametervariationen dargestellt. Zudem wurde ein Lösungsvergleich mit einem nicht konjugierten Problem gegeben.

Chemoenzymatic synthesis of highly enantiomerically enriched secondary alcohols with a thiazolic core

Stereoselective preparative enzymatic acylation and hydrolysis/methanolysis of various C-substituted rac-thiazol-2-yl-methanols were achieved for the preparation of enantiopure or enantiomerically enriched, naturally occurring 2-hydroxymethylthiazoles. The absolute configurations of the resulting secondary alcohols were determined by a detailed ¹H NMR study of Mosher’s derivatives.     

A Comment on Change of Nusselt Number Sign in a Channel Flow Filled by a Fluid-Saturated Porous Medium with Constant Heat Flux Boundary Conditions

The aim of this Letter is to show that, the Nusselt number sign might be changed without changing of heat transfer direction at the wall of channels, even for flows without viscous dissipation.
