Studying dispersoid systems

Summary Measurements of energy transformation in mitochondria are done on a capillary differential titration calorimeter CTD2156. It is important to mention that a sediment is quickly formed by the mitochondria suspension without mixing by means of a vibrating needle. During the measurements, the vibrating needle is located inside the working volume of the chamber. The design of the calorimeter is substantiated theoretically. It provides a new mode of a reagent input in the measuring volume of the calorimetric chambers. It expands the spectrum of tasks that can be solved using this instrument. In the capillary calorimeter the calorimetric chambers unit is simple and small in size. These advantages of capillary chambers provide an opportunity to unite 20 capillary calorimetric chambers in one calorimetric block. It allows designing a multi-channel titration calorimeter. There are obvious advantages of such a calorimeter over other instruments in screening researches and in researches of objects maintaining stability only for a short time.     

Novel functional activities of anti-dna autoantibodies from sera of patients with lymphoproliferative and autoimmune diseases

DNA-hydrolyzing activity of IgG autoantibodies from sera of patients with various types of lymphoproliferative diseases was investigated. The association of DNA-hydrolyzing activity with the antibody (Ab) fraction has been proved by newly developed affinity-capture assay. Study of abzyme incidence in blood tumors and systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE) revealed linkage of anti-DNA Ab catalysts to mature B-cell tumors, and increased probability of DNA-abzymes formation on the background of autoimmune manifestations. These data suggest possible similarity between mechanisms of abzyme formation in SLE and B-cell lymphomas. A new mechanism of formation of DNA-specific catalytic Abs has been proposed based on the increased crossreactivity of polyclonal DNA-abzymes to DNA-depleted nuclear matrix proteins. The possibility of the abzyme production as Ab to the energetically destabilized ground state of the antigen has been discussed. Preliminary results were obtained that indicate the complement-independent cytotoxicity of anti-DNA autoantibodies isolated from blood of patients with SLE and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Positive Trend of Surface Ozone in the North of the Privolzhskii Federal Region of the Russian Federation

The results of long-term continuous measurements of surface ozone concentrations, performed in 2010–2016 in the relatively low-urbanized region in the north of the Privolzhskii Federal Region of the Russian Federation (Vyatskie Polyany, Kirov oblast) are presented. A regular increase in the amplitude of diurnal variations of yearly average surface ozone concentrations is detected. The possible causes of this phenomenon can be both an increase in the atmospheric concentration of pollutants, i.e., precursors of tropospheric ozone, and climatic changes.

On the relativistic cold fluid radial equilibrium of a nonneutral plasma

It is shown that relativistic effects strongly modify the equilibrium of nonneutral plasmas even if the linear velocity of plasma rotation in crossed electric and magnetic fields is small as compared to the speed of light. The change is especially pronounced for the fast rigid-rotor equilibrium, when the frequency of the azimuthal rotation is close to the cyclotron frequency, and the radial density profile becomes approximately parabolic rather than stepwise as predicted by the non-relativistic theory. It is argued that such effects could be detected in experiments similar to those performed by Theiss et al. [A.J. Theiss, R.A. Mahaffey, A.W. Trivelpiece, Phys. Rev. Lett. 35 (1975) 1436]. The relativistic modification of the Brillouin density limit is also addressed.     

Structural and dynamic aspects of electron transfer in proteins — highly organized natural nanostructures

The review briefly outlines theoretical models developed in 1990s to describe electron transfer reactions (ETR) in proteins, as well as different variants of improvements in these models proposed by the present authors to describe ETR in reaction centers (RC) of photosynthetic bacteria with consideration of their molecular dynamics in a wide temperature range. Experimental data on electron transfer from reduced proximal heme c-559 of cytochrome to bacteriochlorophyll dimer radical cation P⁺ in RC from two types of bacteria, viz., native and mutant RC from Rps. viridis and native RC from Rps. sulfoviridis were analyzed within the framework of the models which take into account the quantum and classical (including diffusive) degrees of freedom responsible for reorganization of the protein globule.
