On a result of Ozawa concerning uniqueness of meromorphic functions

In this paper we prove a uniqueness theorem for meromorphic functions sharing three values with some weight which improves some known results.     

Fluctuation study of pionisation in ultrarelativistic nucleus-nucleus interaction

The scaled factorial moments and the multifractal moments have been investigated in differentη-intervals to study the dynamical fluctuation of pions produced in 200 AGeV³²S-Ag/Br interaction. In order to investigate the detail characteristics of intermittency behaviour, theF-moments are extracted up to the eighth order of moments in differentM-intervals. The analysis indicates a non-thermal phase transition and different regime of particle production during the hadronisation process.     

Platinum carbonyl derived catalysts on inorganic and organic supports: a comparative study

Fumed silica, silica gel, silica-alumina and cross-linked (5.5%) polystyrene have been functionalized with quaternary ammonium groups and the Chini cluster [Pt₁₂(CO)₂₄]²⁻ has been anchored onto these functionalized materials by ion pairing. A catalyst has also been prepared by the adsorption of Na₂[Pt₁₂(CO)₂₄] on unfunctionalized fumed silica. The catalytic activities of the resultant materials, and that of commercially purchased 5% platinum on alumina have been studied for the hydrogenation of a variety of unsaturated compounds. The substrates studied are: α-acetamidocinnamic acid, cyclohexanone, acetophenone, methyl pyruvate, ethyl acetoacetate, nitrobenzene and benzonitrile. Compared to the polystyrene supported catalyst, the inorganic oxide supported catalysts have higher surface areas and for most of the substrates have notably higher activities. The functionalized fumed silica-based catalyst gives higher conversions than functionalized silica gel and silica-alumina-based catalysts. In the hydrogenation of acetophenone and ethyl acetoacetate, the functionalized fumed silica-based catalyst show superior activity compared to the commercial platinum catalyst, and the catalyst made by conventional adsorption method. In benzonitrile hydrogenation with all the cluster-derived catalysts a hydrazine derivative is selectively formed, but when the commercial platinum catalyst is used benzyl amine is the main product.     

Biosorption of toxic,heavy, no-carrier-added radionuclides by calcium alginate beads

Summary Studies on adsorption behavior of heavy radionuclides, present altogether in no-carrier-added state, e.g., ^197-200Pb, ^197-200Tl and ¹⁹⁷Hg, have been carried out with calcium alginate beads. High lead (100%) and moderate thallium removal (~65%) was achieved in pH range 2-7. 100% mercury removal was also achieved at pH 2 and 4. Effort has been made to recover all three radionuclides adsorbed in the calcium alginate beads using various chemicals, such as HCl, thiourea, sodium acetate, sodium oxalate and sodium nitrite. It was found that 0.1M HCl and 0.1M thiourea could remove at pH 1 80-90% of adsorbed Pb. Tl recovery was possible by all chemicals mentioned above. Hg was also recovered by all chemicals except HCl.     

Unusual monodentate binding mode of 2,2'-dipyridylamine (L) in isomeric trans-(acac)2RuII(L)2, trans-[(acac)2RuIII(L)2]ClO4, and cis-(acac)2RuII(L)2 (acac = acetylacetonate). synthesis, structures, and spectroscopic, electrochemical, and magnetic aspects

The reaction of cis-Ru(acac)2(CH3CN)2 (acac = acetylacetonate) with 2,2'-dipyridylamine (L) in ethanolic medium resulted in facile one-pot synthesis of stable [(acac)2RuIII(L)]ClO4 ([1]ClO4), trans-[(acac)2RuII(L)2] (2), trans-[(acac)2RuIII)L)2]ClO4 ([2]ClO4), and cis-[(acac)2RuII(L)2] (3). The bivalent congener 1 was generated via electrochemical reduction of [1]ClO4. Although in [1]+ the dipyridylamine ligand (L) is bonded to the metal ion in usual bidentate fashion, in 2/[2]+ and 3, the unusual monodentate binding mode of L has been preferentially stabilized. Moreover, in 2/[2]+ and 3, two such monodentate L's have been oriented in the trans- and cis-configurations, respectively. The binding mode of L and the isomeric geometries of the complexes were established by their single-crystal X-ray structures. The redox stability of the Ru(II) state follows the order 1 < 2 < 3. In contrast to the magnetic moment obtained for [1]ClO4, mu = 1.84 muB at 298 K, typical for low-spin Ru(III) species, the compound [2]ClO4 exhibited an anomalous magnetic moment of 2.71 muB at 300 K in the solid state. The variable-temperature magnetic measurements showed a pronounced decrease of the magnetic moment with the temperature, and that dropped to 1.59 muB at 3 K. The experimental data can be fitted satisfactorily using eq 2 that considered nonquenched spin-orbit coupling and Weiss constant in addition to the temperature-independent paramagnetism. [1]ClO4 and [2]ClO4 displayed rhombic and axial EPR spectra, respectively, in both the solid and the solution states at 77 K.     

Thermal addition of dibenzoylacetylene to cycloheptatriene and the photo-rearrangement of the thermal adduct

The reaction of cycloheptatriene (CHT) with dibenzoylacetylene (DBA), in refluxing toluene gave a mixture of products consisting of 6,7-dibenzoyltricyclo[3.2.2.0^2.4]nona-6,8-diene 6 and 3,4-dibenzoylbicyclo [3.2.2]nona-2,6,8-triene 7. Neat heating of a mixture of CHT and DBA around 95–100° gave besides, 6 and 7, small amounts of two dimers of DBA. Photolysis of 6 in benzene solution gave a lactonic, rearrangement product. 25. The structures of the various products have been established and reasonable mechanisms for their formation have been suggested.     

Accumulation of radiocesium by <Emphasis Type="Italic">Pleurotus citrinopileatus</Emphasis> species of edible mushroom

Pleurotus citrinopileatus, a species of edible mushrooms, is widely accepted food component, especially in Indian subcontinent. The accumulating susceptibility of this edible mushroom species towards long-lived radioisotopes of cesium was studied in controlled laboratory condition using the ¹³⁴Cs (T _1/2 = 2.06 y) radioisotope. It was observed that the experimental mushroom species accumulated ¹³⁴Cs and maximum accumulation took place in the cap portion. The pileus (cap)/stipes (stem) ratio of each ¹³⁴Cs accumulated mushroom sample was determined and found 2.22±0.74. The protein and fat fractions of the experimental mushroom species were extracted separately after accumulation of radiocesium and it was found that most of the radiocesium accumulation occurred in the protein fraction of the mushroom. The mushroom Pleurotus citrinopileatus which is white in color, turned completely black after radiocesium accumulation. The black mushroom so obtained was produced upto fourth generation by tissue culture method without using any radiocesium further. All the successors were found to be black indicating a permanent mutation of the mushroom species.     

Decontamination of radioactive cesium from natural NaCl by amide-type open-chain crown ethers

An attempt has been made to develop a radiochemical methodology for the decontamination of a trace amount of radioactive cesium from a bulk amount of natural NaCl by liquid-liquid extraction (LLX). Open chain crown ethers, of amide type, namely, N,N,N",N"-tetraphenyl-3,6-dioxaoctanediamide (TDD), N,N,N",N"-tetraphenyl-3,6,9-trioxaundecanediamide and N,N"-dinaphthyl-N,N"-diphenyl-3,6-dioxaoctanediamide (DDD) have been chosen for this purpose. The separation factor between Cs and Na is the highest when 10^-4M TDD dissolved in nitrobenzene is used as extractant and 0.4M picric acid at pH 5.0 is used as aqueous phase. About 60% Cs is extracted in this condition in a single run.     

Studies on metal — protein interactions: Inter-comparison among various approaches

Binding ability of mercury, thallium, lead and bismuth with Erythrina variegata seed protein have been investigated using tracer packet technique. Due to the lack of standard methods, inter-comparisons have been made among three different approaches, like trichloroacetic acid (TCA) precipitation, isoelectric precipitation and dialysis of protein after incubation with the metals. Good agreement was observed for all the cases except that of lead.
