Accurate,sensitive determination of omega-6 and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in human plasma,urine samples

Quantitative determination of omega-6 and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in human plasma and urine with high accuracy and precision provides significant information to monitor the underlying etiology of several diseases. In this regard, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry is a good choice owing to its great selectivity and sensitivity. Additionally, the hybrid quadrupole–time of flight–mass spectrometer systems provides easy identification of target compounds with superior mass measurements. In this study, an analytical method has been developed for simple, accurate and simultaneous determination of linoleic acid, arachidonic acid, docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid in a short chromatographic analysis period. The developed method is suitable for the quantitative detection of these four compounds with detection limits ranging between 1.1–3.0 ng ml⁻¹ and its applicability was assessed in human urine and plasma samples. As a result, acceptable accuracy (between 83 and 111%) and good precision (<6%) were obtained for target compounds using matrix matching calibration strategy.

Preparation and Characterization of Activated Carbon from Microwave and Conventional Heated Almond Shells Using Phosphoric Acid Activation

Activated carbon production from almond shells using phosphoric acid activation agent was achieved by applying both conventional heating and microwave heating in succession. The morphology and surface properties of activated carbon were studied using thermogravimetric and differential gravimetric analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis. A surface area of 1128 m²/g was achieved by optimizing the microwave power (500?W), microwave application time (15?minutes), conventional heating time (45?minutes), conventional heating temperature (500?°C), and the phosphoric acid:sample ratio (0.7:1). An adsorption capacity of methylene blue of 148?mg/g and an iodine value of 791?mg/g was obtained for the prepared activated carbon.     

A new ternary Cu (II) complex with 4,7-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline and NOO-type tridentate Schiff base ligand: Synthesis,crystal structure,biomacromolecular interactions,and radical scavenging activities

NOO-type tridentate Schiff base, N-salicylidene-2-aminobenzoic acid, (H₂L), and its ternary Cu (II) complex containing H₂L Schiff base and 4,7-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (4,7-dmphen), [Cu(4,7-dmphen)(H₂L)]₂7H₂O, have been synthesized and characterized by CHN analysis, ESI-MS, FTIR, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The interaction of alone H₂L Schiff base ligand and ternary Cu (II) complex with biomacramolecules {calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA)} has been investigated by electronic absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The experimental results indicate that H₂L Schiff base ligand and ternary Cu (II) complex bind to CT-DNA by means of a moderate intercalation mode. Furthermore, the fluorescence quenching mechanism between H₂L Schiff base ligand and ternary Cu (II) complex with BSA possesses a static quenching process. Radical scavenging activity of H₂L Schiff base ligand and ternary Cu (II) complex was measured in terms of EC₅₀, using the DPPH and H₂O₂ methods. Biomacromolecule interactions and scavenging activity studies revealed that ternary Cu (II) complex yielded better results than H₂L Schiff base ligand alone.     

Re-Evaluation of a Fulvene-Based Self-Replicating Diels–Alder Reaction System

We re-evaluate our claim of a high diastereoselectivity in the self-relicating Diels–Alder reaction between maleimide 1 and fulvene 3 . It was shown that the system has a diastereoselectivity of 1.8:1 for NN-4 : NX-4 , which is contrary to the 16:1 ratio claimed by Dieckmann et al. The analysis of ¹H NMR monitoring of the reaction revealed that both replicators show sigmoidal growth which is typical for auto-catalytic systems.

This paper presents a framework for incorporating arbitrary implicit multistep schemes into the lattice Boltzmann method. While the temporal discretization of the lattice Boltzmann equation is usually derived using a second-order trapezoidal rule, it appears natural to augment the time discretization by using multistep methods. The effect of incorporating multistep methods into the lattice Boltzmann method is studied in terms of accuracy and stability. Numerical tests for the third-order accurate Adams-Moulton method and the second-order backward differentiation formula show that the temporal order of the method can be increased when the stability properties of multistep methods are considered in accordance with the second Dahlquist barrier.
