The UV. irradiation of 17 β-hydroxy-2-aza-4-androsten-3-one (1) , N-methyl-17 β-hydroxy-2-aza-4-androsten-3-one (3) , 17 β-hydroxy-4-aza-5 β-androst-1-en-3-one (2) and N-methyl-17 β-hydroxy-4-aza-5 β-androst-1-en-3-one (4) , gives rise to 1,10-seco (from 1 and 3 ) and 5, 10-seco (from 2 and 4 ) steroids.

The UV. irradiation of 17β-acetoxy-4α, 5α-epoxy-2-oxaandrostan-3-one ( 7 ) yields 17β-acetoxy-2-oxa-10(5 → 4)abeo-4ζ (H)-androsta-3,5-dione ( 11 ). A non-photochemical synthesis of 11 , proceeding in lower yield, is also described.     

The differentiation operator in the space of uniformly convergent Dirichlet series

Continuity, compactness, the spectrum and ergodic properties of the differentiation operator are investigated, when it acts in the Fréchet space of all Dirichlet series that are uniformly convergent in all half-planes for each . The properties of the formal inverse of the differentiation are also investigated.     

NEW CARBON-PHOSPHORUS BOND CONTAINING COMPOUND IN THE REACTION OF 2-ACETYLTHIOPHENE WITH PHOSPHORUS PENTACHLORIDE

Abstract

The treatment of 2-acetylthiophene with phosphorus pentachloride led, besides other products reported in previous studies, to 2-(2-thienyl)-2-chloroethenephosphonic acid in 16% yield. This compound was transformed, in the course of purification attempts, into 2-(2-thienyl)-2-oxoethanephosphonic acid. Full spectroscopic data for both compounds are provided.     

Magnetization reversal of a single cobalt cluster using a RF field pulse

Technological improvements require the understanding of dynamical magnetization reversal processes at the nanosecond time scales. In this paper, we present the first magnetization reversal measurements performed on a single cobalt cluster (counting only a thousand of spins), using the micro-superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) technique by applying a constant magnetic field combined with a radio-frequency (RF) field pulse. First of all, we present the different technical steps necessary to detect the magnetic reversals at low temperature (T=35 mK) of a well-defined nanoparticle prepared by low energy clusters beam deposition (LECBD). We previously showed that the three-dimensional (3D)-switching Stoner-Wohlfarth astroid represents the magnetic anisotropy of the nanoparticle. Then, an improved device coupled with a gold stripe line, allow us to reverse such macrospin, using a RF pulse. A qualitative understanding of the magnetization reversal by non-linear resonance has been obtained with the Landau-Lifschitz-Gilbert (LLG) equation.     

Strong duals of projective limits of (LB)-spaces

We investigate the problem when the strong dual of a projective limit of (LB)-spaces coincides with the inductive limit of the strong duals. It is well-known that the answer is affirmative for spectra of Banach spaces if the projective limit is a quasinormable Fréchet space. In that case, the spectrum satisfies a certain condition which is called strong P-type. We provide an example which shows that strong P-type in general does not imply that the strong dual of the projective limit is the inductive limit of the strong duals, but on the other hand we show that this is indeed true if one deals with projective spectra of retractive (LB)-spaces. Finally, we apply our results to a question of Grothendieck about biduals of (LF)-spaces.     

Modular diphosphine ligands based on bisphenol A backbones

A straightforward two-step synthesis is used to obtain new phosphorus-containing ligands based on readily available bisphenol A type backbones. Five diphosphine ligands have been prepared in good yields. An X-ray crystallographic study is presented for ligand 5. Preliminary results on rhodium-catalyzed hydroformylation exemplify the use of these ligands for homogeneous catalysis.
