Nanowires are formed by indenting and subsequently retracting two pieces of sodium metal. Their cross section gradually reduces upon retraction and the diameters can be obtained from the conductance. In previous work we have demonstrated that when one constructs a histogram of diameters from large numbers of indentation-retraction cycles such histograms show a periodic pattern of stable nanowire diameters due to shell structure in the conductance modes. Here, we report the observation of a modulation of this periodic pattern, in agreement with predictions of a supershell structure. 相似文献

We have analyzed about a hundred voltage-dependent differential resistance dV/dI(V) curves of metallic point contacts between c-axis-oriented MgB2 thin film and Ag, which exhibit clear Andreev reflection features connected with the superconducting gap. About one half of the curves show the presence of a second larger gap. The histogram of the double gap distribution reveals distinct maxima at 2.4 and 7 meV, while curves with single-gap features result in a more broad maximum at 3.5 meV. The double-gap distribution is in qualitative agreement with the distribution of gap values over the Fermi surface calculated by H. J. Choi et al. (cond-mat/0111183). The data unequivocally show the presence of two gaps: ΔS=2.45±0.15 meV and ΔL=7.0±0.45 meV in MgB2 with the gap ratio ΔL/ΔS=2.85±0.15. Our observations further prove a widely discussed multigap scenario for MgB2, where two distinct gaps are seen in the clean limit, while a single averaged gap is present in the dirty one. 相似文献

The whispering gallery modes propagating along the surface of an anisotropic elastic body are investigated with the use of
space-time caustic expansions and space-time ray series. Each surface mode modulated in amplitude and frequency, is interpreted
as a wave packet, with its amplitude’s maximum moving at a group velocity. On the boundary surface, asymptotic expressions
for the group velocity (as a function of time and coordinates) are derived, which are in agreement with analogous formulas
for Rayleigh waves of SV type in the isotropic case. Bibliography: 6 titles.

In this paper, the study of the high-frequency Love waves (simular to the well-known transverse waves of theSH type) near the surface of an anisotropic elastic body is continued. The formulation of the boundary-value problem, independent
of a specific form of the elasticity tensor, provides the possibility of developing a kinematic approach, which is essential
for constructing the asymptotics of these high-frequency waves. To this end, an algorithm is proposed that allows one to relate
the transversality of the polarization of surface waves to the directions of their propagation on the surface and to obtain
the conditions necessary for the origination of such waves. The algorithm suggested makes it possible to indicate those types
of symmetry of media (special cases of anisotropy) for which the directions obtained correspond to the field of rays of Love
waves. In these cases, the space-time ray method provides a mathematical tool for constructing uniform asymptotics of the
