In many organic electronic devices functionality is achieved by blending two or more materials, typically polymers or molecules, with distinctly different optical or electrical properties in a single film. The local scale morphology of such blends is vital for the device performance. Here, a simple approach to study the full 3D morphology of phase‐separated blends, taking advantage of the possibility to selectively dissolve the different components is introduced. This method is applied in combination with AFM to investigate a blend of a semiconducting and ferroelectric polymer typically used as active layer in organic ferroelectric resistive switches. It is found that the blend consists of a ferroelectric matrix with three types of embedded semiconductor domains and a thin wetting layer at the bottom electrode. Statistical analysis of the obtained images excludes the presence of a fourth type of domains. The criteria for the applicability of the presented technique are discussed. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2015 , 53, 1231–1237  相似文献

A combined experimental and ab initio study is presented of the 1H NMR chemical shift distribution of aqueous hydrogen chloride solution as a function of acid concentration, based on Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics simulations and fully periodic NMR chemical-shift calculations. The agreement of computed and experimental spectra is very good. From first-principles calculations, we can show that the individual contributions of Eigen and Zundel ions, regular water molecules, and the chlorine solvation shell to the NMR line are very distinct and almost independent of the acid concentration. From the computed instantaneous NMR distributions, it is further possible to characterize the average variation in hydrogen-bond strength of the different complexes.  相似文献

The most widely used algorithm for Monte Carlo sampling of electronic transitions in trajectory surface hopping (TSH) calculations is the so-called anteater algorithm, which is inefficient for sampling low-probability nonadiabatic events. We present a new sampling scheme (called the army ants algorithm) for carrying out TSH calculations that is applicable to systems with any strength of coupling. The army ants algorithm is a form of rare event sampling whose efficiency is controlled by an input parameter. By choosing a suitable value of the input parameter the army ants algorithm can be reduced to the anteater algorithm (which is efficient for strongly coupled cases), and by optimizing the parameter the army ants algorithm may be efficiently applied to systems with low-probability events. To demonstrate the efficiency of the army ants algorithm, we performed atom-diatom scattering calculations on a model system involving weakly coupled electronic states. Fully converged quantum mechanical calculations were performed, and the probabilities for nonadiabatic reaction and nonreactive deexcitation (quenching) were found to be on the order of 10(-8). For such low-probability events the anteater sampling scheme requires a large number of trajectories ( approximately 10(10)) to obtain good statistics and converged semiclassical results. In contrast by using the new army ants algorithm converged results were obtained by running 10(5) trajectories. Furthermore, the results were found to be in excellent agreement with the quantum mechanical results. Sampling errors were estimated using the bootstrap method, which is validated for use with the army ants algorithm.  相似文献

The conformational isomerization dynamics of melatonin and 5-methoxy N-acetyltryptophan methyl amide (5-methoxy NATMA) have been studied using the methods of IR-UV hole-filling spectroscopy and IR-induced population transfer spectroscopy. Using these techniques, single conformers of melatonin were excited via a well-defined NH stretch fundamental with an IR pump laser. This excess energy was used to drive conformational isomerization. By carrying out the infrared excitation early in a supersonic expansion, the excited molecules were re-cooled into their zero-point levels, partially re-filling the hole created in the ground state population of the excited conformer, and creating gains in population of the other conformers. These changes in population were detected using laser-induced fluorescence downstream in the expansion via an UV probe laser. The isomerization quantum yields for melatonin show some conformation specificity but no hint of vibrational mode specificity. In 5-methoxy NATMA, no isomerization was observed out of the single conformational well populated in the expansion in the absence of the infrared excitation. In order to study the dependence of the isomerization on the cooling rate, the experimental arrangement was modified so that faster cooling conditions could be studied. In this arrangement, the pump and probe lasers were overlapped in space in the high density region of the expansion, and the time dependence of the zero-point level populations of the conformers was probed following selective excitation of a single conformation. The analysis needed to extract isomerization quantum yields from the timing scans was developed and applied to the melatonin timing scans. Comparison between the frequency and time domain isomerization quantum yields under identical experimental conditions produced similar results. Under fast cooling conditions, the product quantum yields were shifted from their values under standard conditions. The results for melatonin are compared with those for N-acetyl tryptophan methyl amide.  相似文献

We study the linear optical properties of helical cylindrical molecular aggregates accounting for the effects of static diagonal disorder. Absorption, linear dichroism, and circular dichroism spectra are presented, calculated using brute force numerical simulations and a modified version of the coherent potential approximation that accounts for finite size effects by using the appropriate open boundary conditions. Excellent agreement between both approaches is found. It is also shown that the inclusion of disorder results in a better agreement between calculated and measured spectra for the chlorosomes of green bacteria as compared to our previous report, where we restricted ourselves to homogeneous cylinders [Didraga, Klugkist, and Knoester, J. Phys. Chem. B 106, 11474 (2002)]. For the excitons that govern the optical response, we also investigate the disorder-induced localization properties. By analyzing an autocorrelation function of the exciton wave function, we find a strongly anisotropic localization behavior, closely following the properties of chiral wave functions which previously have been found for homogenoeus helical cylinders [Didraga and Knoester, J. Chem. Phys. 121, 946 (2004)]. It is shown that the circular dichroism spectrum may still show a strong dependence on the cylinder length, even when the exciton wave function is localized in a region small compared to the cylinder's size.  相似文献

A semiclassical trajectory method, called the self-consistent decay of mixing (SCDM) method, is presented for the treatment of electronically nonadiabatic dynamics. The SCDM method is a modification of the semiclassical Ehrenfest (SE) method (also called the semiclassical time-dependent self-consistent-field method) that solves the problem of unphysical mixed final states by including decay-of-mixing terms in the equations for the evolution of the electronic state populations. These terms generate a force, called the decoherent force (or dephasing force), that drives the electronic component of each trajectory toward a pure state. Results for several mixed quantum-classical methods, in particular the SCDM, SE, and natural-decay-of-mixing methods and several trajectory surface hopping methods, are compared to the results of accurate quantum mechanical calculations for 12 cases involving five different fully dimensional triatomic model systems. The SCDM method is found to be the most accurate of the methods tested. The method should be useful for the simulation of photochemical reactions.  相似文献

EDTA-linked beta-cyclodextrin dimer 3 was synthesized from EDTA bis(anhydride) 1 and mono(propylamino)-appended beta-cyclodextrin 2. p-tert-butylbenzoate 5, bound by the beta-cyclodextrin cavities of 3 with an association constant of 10(4) M(-1) in water, acts as a sensitizer for the Eu(III) and Tb(III) complexes of 3. Luminescence spectroscopy, microcalorimetry, and Gd(III)-induced NMR relaxation rate measurements prove that 3 forms a 1:2 complex with 5 and that one of the beta-cyclodextrin-bound sensitizers coordinates to the EDTA-encapsulated Ln(III) ion. The Eu(III) complex of 3 forms strong 1:1 complexes (K approximately 10(7) M(-1)) with bis(propylamido adamantyl)-functionalized biphenyl sensitizers 7 and 8 in water. Both beta-cyclodextrins of 3 are involved in the binding of these guests. The amide functionality adjacent to the biphenyl unit in 7 and 8 coordinates to the EDTA-encapsulated Ln(III) ion. For these biphenyl-based antennae both binding to beta-cyclodextrin and coordination to the Ln(III) center are crucial for efficient sensitization.  相似文献

The infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopy of o-, m-, and p-ethynylstyrene isomers (oES, mES, and pES) were studied by a combination of methods, including resonance-enhanced two-photon ionization (R2PI), UV-UV hole-burning spectroscopy (UVHB), resonant ion-dip infrared spectroscopy (RIDIRS), and rotationally resolved fluorescence excitation spectroscopy. In addition, the newly developed method of stimulated emission pumping-population transfer spectroscopy (SEP-PTS) was used to determine the energy threshold to conformational isomerization in m-ethynylstyrene. The S(1) <-- S(0) origin transitions of oES and pES occur at 32 369 and 33 407 cm(-1), respectively. In mES, the cis and trans conformations are calculated to be close in energy. In the R2PI spectrum of mES, the two most prominent peaks (32672 and 32926 cm(-1)) were confirmed by UVHB spectroscopy to be S(1) <-- S(0) origins of these two conformers. The red-shifted conformer was identified as the cis structure by least-squares fitting of the rotationally resolved fluorescence excitation spectrum of the origin band. There are also two possible conformations in oES, but transitions due to only one were observed experimentally, as confirmed by UVHB spectroscopy. Density functional theory calculations (B3LYP/6-31+G) predict that the cis-ortho conformer, in which the substituents point toward each other, is about 8 kJ/mol higher in energy than the trans-ortho isomer, and should only be about 5% of the room temperature population of oES. Ground-state infrared spectra in the C-H stretch region (3000-3300 cm(-1)) of each isomer were obtained with RIDIRS. In all three structural isomers, the acetylenic C-H stretch fundamental was split by Fermi resonance. Infrared spectra were also recorded in the excited electronic state, using a UV-IR-UV version of RIDIR spectroscopy. In all three isomers the acetylenic C-H stretch fundamental was unshifted from the ground state, but no Fermi resonance was seen. The first observed and last unobserved transitions in the SEP-PT spectrum were used to place lower and upper bounds on the barrier to cis --> trans isomerization in m-ethynylstyrene of 990-1070 cm(-1). Arguments are given for the lack of a kinetic shift in the measurement. The analogous trans --> cis barrier is in the same range (989-1065 cm(-1)), indicating that the relative energies of the zero-point levels of the two isomers are (E(ZPL)(cis) - E(ZPL)(trans))= -75 to +81 cm(-1). Both the barrier heights and relative energies of the minima are close to those determined by DFT (Becke3LYP/6-31+G) calculations.  相似文献

The reversible red and far-red light-induced transitions of cyanobacterial phytochrome Cph1 from Synechocystis PCC 6803 were investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) difference spectroscopy. High-quality light-induced Pfr-Pr difference FTIR spectra were recorded for the 58 kDa N-terminal domain of Cph1 by repetitive photochemical cycling and signal averaging. The Pfr-Pr difference spectra in H(2)O and D(2)O were very similar to those previously reported for full-length 85 kDa Cph1.(1) Published assignments were extended by analysis of the effects of (13)C and (15)N isotope substitutions at selected sites in the phycocyanobilin chromophore and by (15)N global labeling of the protein. The Pfr-Pr difference spectra were dominated by an amide I peak/trough at 1653 cm(-1)(+)/1631 cm(-1)(-) and a smaller amide II band at 1554 cm(-1). Labeling effects allowed specific chromophore assignments for the C(1)=O (1736 cm(-1)(-)/1724 cm(-1)(+)) and C(19)=O (1704 cm(-1)(-)) carbonyl vibrations, C=C vibrations at 1589 cm(-1)(+), and bands at 1537(-), 1512(+), 1491(-), 1163(+), 1151(-), 1134(+), 1109(-), and 1072(-) cm(-1) that must involve chromophore C-N bonds. A variety of additional changes were insensitive to isotope labeling of the chromophore. Effects of (15)N labeling of the protein were used to tentatively assign some of these to specific amino acid changes. Those insensitive to (15)N labeling included a protonated aspartic or glutamic acid at 1734 cm(-1)(-)/1722 cm(-1)(+) and a cysteine at 2575 cm(-1)(+)/2557 cm(-1)(-). Bands sensitive to (15)N protein labeling at 1487 cm(-1)(+)/1502 cm(-1)(-) might arise from trytophan and bands at 1261 cm(-1)(+)/1244 cm(-1)(-) and 1107 cm(-1)(-)/1095 cm(-1)(+) might arise from a histidine environment or protonation change. These assignments are discussed in light of the 15Z-E photoisomerization model of phototransformation and the associated protein conformational changes.  相似文献
