Lanthanide nitrate complexes with 2-azacyclononanone

Thermal behavior of rare earth nitrate complexes with 2-azacyclononanone (AZA) with Ln(NO₃)₃·3(AZA) composition (where Ln=Gd, Er and Ho) was analyzed in kinetic point of view. Kinetic parameters were calculated from thermogravimetric data. All obtained results were similar. The first decomposition step was representative to the loss of ligand and the residue was essentially Ln₂O₃. Furthermore, a reaction path was proposed for the thermal decomposition of the Ln(NO₃)₃·3(AZA).

A Note on Truncated Long-Range Percolation with Heavy Tails on Oriented Graphs

We consider oriented long-range percolation on a graph with vertex set \({\mathbb {Z}}^d \times {\mathbb {Z}}_+\) and directed edges of the form \(\langle (x,t), (x+y,t+1)\rangle \), for x, y in \({\mathbb {Z}}^d\) and \(t \in {\mathbb {Z}}_+\). Any edge of this form is open with probability \(p_y\), independently for all edges. Under the assumption that the values \(p_y\) do not vanish at infinity, we show that there is percolation even if all edges of length more than k are deleted, for k large enough. We also state the analogous result for a long-range contact process on \({\mathbb {Z}}^d\).     

Summation of modes of a sound signal in a shallow sea

Results of an experiment on the summation of selected modes of a sound signal in a shallow sea (the Barents Sea, a sea depth of 120 m, a 17-km-long path) are presented. The experiment is performed with the use of a point source generating a broadband pulsed signal with a duration of 5 s and a linear frequency modulation within 100–300 Hz. The mode selection in the in-sea experiment is achieved using a vertical antenna array (32 hydrophones, length of 96 m). It is shown that the mode signals selected at the end of the path are formed with a part of the path. The modes are summed coherently (with the use of two methods) and incoherently. The noise immunity of the mode summation is estimated.     

Carbon-13 and proton NMR assignments of a new agathisflavone derivative

The (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra of 5-acetyl-7,4'-dimethoxyflavone-(6-8')-5'-acetyl-7',4'-dimethoxyflavone, a new agathisflavone derivative, were completely assigned on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR techniques.     

Fixation for distributed clustering processes

We study a discrete‐time resource flow in \input amssym ${\Bbb Z}^d $ where wealthier vertices attract the resources of their less rich neighbors. For any translation‐invariant probability distribution of initial resource quantities, we prove that the flow at each vertex terminates after finitely many steps. This answers (a generalized version of) a question posed by van den Berg and Meester in 1991. The proof uses the mass transport principle and extends to other graphs. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Hypersurfaces with null higher order mean curvature

A hypersurface M ⁿ immersed in a space form is r-minimal if its (r + 1) ^th -curvature (the (r + 1) ^th elementary symmetric function of its principal curvatures) vanishes identically. Let W be the set of points which are omitted by the totally geodesic hypersurfaces tangent to M. We will prove that if an orientable hypersurface M ⁿ is r-minimal and its r ^th -curvature is nonzero everywhere, and the set W is nonempty and open, then M ⁿ has relative nullity n − r. Also we will prove that if an orientable hypersurface M ⁿ is r-minimal and its r ^th -curvature is nonzero everywhere, and the ambient space is euclidean or hyperbolic and W is nonempty, then M ⁿ is r-stable.
