Linking numbers appear in local quantum field theory in the presence of tensor fields, which are closed two-forms on Minkowski space. Given any pair of such fields, it is shown that the commutator of the corresponding intrinsic (gauge-invariant) vector potentials, integrated about spacelike separated, spatial loops, are elements of the center of the algebra of all local fields. Moreover, these commutators are proportional to the linking numbers of the underlying loops. If the commutators are different from zero, the underlying two-forms are not exact (i.e. there do not exist local vector potentials for them). The theory then necessarily contains massless particles. A prominent example of this kind, due to J.E. Roberts, is given by the free electromagnetic field and its Hodge dual. Further examples with more complex mass spectrum are presented in this article.

First evidence for the existence of free trifluoromethyl anion CF3? has been obtained. The 3D‐caged potassium cation in [K(crypt‐222)]+ is inaccessible to CF3?, thus rendering it uncoordinated (“naked”). Ionic [K(crypt‐222)]+ CF3? has been characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, solution NMR spectroscopy, DFT calculations, and reactivity toward electrophiles.  相似文献

Extremely slow and extremely fast new water oxidation catalysts based on the Ru–bda (bda=2,2′‐bipyridine‐6,6′‐dicarboxylate) systems are reported with turnover frequencies in the range of 1 and 900 cycles s?1, respectively. Detailed analyses of the main factors involved in the water oxidation reaction have been carried out and are based on a combination of reactivity tests, electrochemical experiments, and DFT calculations. These analyses give a convergent interpretation that generates a solid understanding of the main factors involved in the water oxidation reaction, which in turn allows the design of catalysts with very low energy barriers in all the steps involved in the water oxidation catalytic cycle. We show that for this type of system π‐stacking interactions are the key factors that influence reactivity and by adequately controlling them we can generate exceptionally fast water oxidation catalysts.  相似文献

High-throughput screening for optimal reaction conditions and the search for efficient catalysts is of eminent importance in the development of chemical processes and for expanding the spectrum of synthetic methodologies in chemistry. In this context we report a novel approach for a microfluidic chemical laboratory integrating organic synthesis, separation and time-resolved fluorescence detection on a single microchip. The feasibility of our integrated laboratory is demonstrated by monitoring the formation of tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives by Pictet-Spengler condensation. After on-chip reaction the products and residual starting material were separated enantioselectively on the same chip. On-chip deep UV laser-induced fluorescence detection with time-correlated single photon counting was applied for compound assignment. The system was utilized to screen reaction conditions and various substrates for Pictet-Spengler reactions on-chip. Finally, the microlab was successfully applied to investigate enantioselective reactions using BINOL-based phosphoric acids as organocatalysts.  相似文献

Germicidin synthase (Gcs) from Streptomyces coelicolor is a type III polyketide synthase (PKS) with broad substrate flexibility for acyl groups linked through a thioester bond to either coenzyme A (CoA) or acyl carrier protein (ACP). Germicidin synthesis was reconstituted in vitro by coupling Gcs with fatty acid biosynthesis. Since Gcs has broad substrate flexibility, we directly compared the kinetic properties of Gcs with both acyl-ACP and acyl-CoA. The catalytic efficiency of Gcs for acyl-ACP was 10-fold higher than for acyl-CoA, suggesting a strong preference toward carrier protein starter unit transfer. The 2.9 ? germicidin synthase crystal structure revealed canonical type III PKS architecture along with an unusual helical bundle of unknown function that appears to extend the dimerization interface. A pair of arginine residues adjacent to the active site affect catalytic activity but not ACP binding. This investigation provides new and surprising information about the interactions between type III PKSs and ACPs that will facilitate the construction of engineered systems for production of novel polyketides.  相似文献
