From Spherical to Leaf‐Like Morphologies: Tunable Supramolecular Assembly of Alkynylgold(I) Complexes through Variations of the Alkyl Chain Length

A series of luminescent polynuclear alkynylgold(I) complexes with different lengths of alkyl chains attached at the N‐heterocyclic carbene moieties has been synthesised and demonstrated to display intriguing self‐assembly behaviours through a cooperative growth mechanism. Variation of the alkyl chain length was found to cause drastic morphological differences in the aggregates and to strongly affect the thermodynamic parameters as revealed by the nucleation–elongation model.     

Local Semicircle Law for Random Regular Graphs

We consider random d‐regular graphs on N vertices, with degree d at least (log N)⁴. We prove that the Green's function of the adjacency matrix and the Stieltjes transform of its empirical spectral measure are well approximated by Wigner's semicircle law, down to the optimal scale given by the typical eigenvalue spacing (up to a logarithmic correction). Aside from well‐known consequences for the local eigenvalue distribution, this result implies the complete (isotropic) delocalization of all eigenvectors and a probabilistic version of quantum unique ergodicity.© 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.     

Thom-Sebastiani properties of Kohn-Rossi cohomology of compact connected strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds

Let X_1 and X_2 be two compact connected strongly pseudoconvex embeddable Cauchy-Riemann(CR) manifolds of dimensions 2m-1 and 2n-1 in C~(m+1)and C~(n+1), respectively. We introduce the ThomSebastiani sum X = X_1 ⊕X_2which is a new compact connected strongly pseudoconvex embeddable CR manifold of dimension 2m+2n+1 in C~(m+n+2). Thus the set of all codimension 3 strongly pseudoconvex compact connected CR manifolds in Cn+1for all n 2 forms a semigroup. X is said to be an irreducible element in this semigroup if X cannot be written in the form X_1 ⊕ X_2. It is a natural question to determine when X is an irreducible CR manifold. We use Kohn-Rossi cohomology groups to give a necessary condition of the above question. Explicitly,we show that if X = X_1 ⊕ X_2, then the Kohn-Rossi cohomology of the X is the product of those Kohn-Rossi cohomology coming from X_1 and X_2 provided that X_2 admits a transversal holomorphic S~1-action.     

Positively charged liposomes consisting of the KTTKS pentapeptide conjugated with rhodamine increase rhodamine toxicity in E. coli and zebrafish embryo

Liposomes composed of cell‐penetrating peptide derivatives increased transport across the cell membrane. Conjugating rhodamine to a cell‐penetrating peptide increased the toxicity of rhodamine in E. coli and zebrafish embryos. A similar total protein inhibition pattern with different intensities, indicating that the interaction pathways of the rho‐KTTKS‐CONH₂ monomer and liposomes were the same. It suggests that the rho‐KTTKS‐CONH₂ liposomes showed higher toxicity because better transport across the cell membrane increased the effective concentration inside cells. The staining of zebrafish embryos using rho‐KTTKS‐CONH₂ liposomes showed a longer retention time, suggesting that it can penetrate deeper tissues or organs in zebrafish.     

Stereoconvergent,Redox‐Neutral Access to Tetrahydroquinoxalines through Relay Epoxide Opening/Amination of Alcohols

We present an economical catalytic procedure to convert readily available 1,2‐diaminobenzenes and terminal epoxides into valuable 1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroquinoxalines in a highly enantioselective fashion. This procedure operates through relay zinc and iridium catalysis, and achieves redox‐neutral and stereoconvergent production of valuable chiral heterocycles from racemic starting materials with water as the only side product. The use of commercially available reagents and catalysts and a convenient procedure also make this catalytic method attractive for practical application.     

Microstructural and mechanical analysis of Cu and Au interconnect on various bond pads

Effects of High Temperature Storage (HTS) and bonding toward microstructure change of intermetallic compound (IMC) at the wire bonding interface of 3 types of bond pad (Al, AlSiCu and NiPdAu) were presented in this paper. Optical and electron microscope analyses revealed that the IMC growth rate of samples under 175 and 200 °C HTS increased in the order of Al > AlSiCu > NiPdAu. Besides, higher HTS and bonding temperatures also promoted higher IMC thickness. The compositional study showed that higher HTS and bonding temperature developed rapid interdiffusion in bonding interface. In the mechanical ball shear test, a decrease of the shear force of Al and AlSiCu bond pads after 500 h HTS was believed due to poorly developed IMC at bonding interface. On the other hand, shear force degradation at 1000 h was due to excessive growth of IMC that in turn causes the formation of defects. For NiPdAu bond pad, increasing trend of shear force with HTS duration at 175 °C implied a good reliability of the Cu wire bonding. The rapid microscopic inspection on Cu wired Al bond pad under HTS 175 °C showed the IMC development from the periphery to the center of the ball bond. However, after 500 h voids started to develop until the crack was observed at 1000 h.
