Thin layer chromatography of 57 metal ions on an inorganic ion-exchanger in mixed solvent systems

Summary Thin layers of stannic arsenate have been used to study the chromatographic behaviour of 57 metal ions in different mixed solvents. Au³⁺, Hg²⁺, UO ₂ ²⁺ , Be²⁺ and Al³⁺ and others can be easily separated from numerous metal ions. Fast quaternary, ternary and binary separations have been also achieved. Important separations are discussed. The effect of pH, duration of heating of ionexchanger plates and layer thickness on the R_f values has been studied and discussed. It is shown that Lederer's equation is also obeyed by thin layers of stannic arsenate, if instead of concentration of Na⁺ ion its activity is taken into consideration.     

Dispersion and deposition mechanisms of particles suspended in a turbulent plane Couette flow

Inertial particle transfer in a turbulent plane Couette flow (C flow) was studied using Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) of the flow combined with a Lagrangian particle tracking approach for particles with Stokes numbers (St) 5, 25 and 125. The particle concentration was assumed low enough, so that the simulations were done under one-way coupling condition.

Electrochemically induced oxidative cyclization of 2,3‐dihydroxypyridine. Synthesis of a novel highly oxygenated heterocyclic compound

Electrochemical oxidation of 2,3‐dihydroxypyridine in aqueous phosphate buffer solution at a glassy carbon electrode has been studied using cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential coulometry. The results indicate that oxidation of 2,3‐dihydroxypyridine on glassy carbon electrode shows an irreversible feature in aqueous solution. This data indicates that the electrochemically generated pyridindione is unstable and via an oxidative conversion pathway converts to a novel highly oxygenated heterocyclic compound. By means of the obtained electrochemical data, an efficient, one‐pot method for the synthesis of this heterocyclic compound based on the oxidative cyclization of 2,3‐dihydroxypyridine under green conditions, and in a good yield and purity is described. Al(HSO4)3 and Al2O3-SO3H as Efficient Catalysts for Modified Preparation of 3,4-Dihydropyrimidin-2 (1H)-ones/thiones

An environmentally friendly procedure for the preparation of dihydropyrimidinone derivatives or their sulfur analogues under thermal solvent-free conditions in the presence of aluminium hydrogen sulfate [Al(HSO₄)₃] and alumina sulfuric acid (Al₂O₃-SO₃H) as heterogeneous catalysts was developed.     

Kinetic study of electrochemically induced Michael reaction of1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone with acetylacetone and benzoylacetone

The electrochemical oxidation of 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone has been studied in the presence of acetylacetone and benzoylacetone as nucleophiles in a mixture of ethanol/water by means of cyclic voltammetry as a diagnostic technique.The results indicate the participation of electrochemically produced anthraquinone in the Michael addition reaction with acetylacetone and benzoylacetone to form the corresponding new anthraquinone derivatives.On the basis of the EC mechanism,the observed homogeneous rate constants（kobs）of the reaction of anthraquinone with acetylacetone and benzoylacetone were estimated by comparing the experimental cyclic voltammograms with the digitally simulated results.     

Synthesis,crystal structure,and electrochemical properties of Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes with two unsymmetrical N2O2 Schiff base ligands

Nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes of two unsymmetrical tetradentate Schiff base ligands [Ni(Me-salabza)] (1), [Cu(Me-salabza)] (2) and [Ni(salabza)] (3), {H₂salabza = N,N′-bis[(salicylidene)-2-aminobenzylamine] and H₂Me-salabza = N,N′-bis[(methylsalicylidene)-2-aminobenzylamine]}, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods. The crystal structures of 2 and 3 complexes have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Both copper(II) and nickel(II) ions adopt a distorted square planar geometry in [Cu(Me-salabza)] and [Ni(salabza)] complexes. The cyclic voltammetric studies of these complexes in dichloromethane indicate the electronic effects of the methyl groups on redox potential.     

A facile electrochemical method for the synthesis of new sulfonamide derivatives of potential biological significance

The electrochemical synthesis of some new sulfonamide derivatives was carried out via the electrochemical oxidation of 2,3-dihydrophthalazine-l,4-dione （1） in the presence of arylsulfinic acids （2a and 2b） as nucleophiles. The results show that, the electrogenerated phthalazine-l,4-dione （lox） participates in a Michael type addition reaction with 2a or 2b and via an EC mechanism to produce the corresponding sulfonamide derivatives. This method provides a one-pot procedure for the synthesis of new sulfonamide derivatives of potential biological significance in good yields without using toxic reagents at a carbon electrode in an environmentally friendly manner.

Solvent effect on the linkage isomerism in [Fe(CO)4(NCS)]− and [Fe(CO)4(SCN)]− anions: A theoretical investigation

The present study illustrated the stability of linkage isomers of [Fe(CO)₄(NCS)]^? and [Fe(CO)₄(SCN)]^? by the use of PBE quantum method. It also investigated the polarity of solvent effect on dipole moment, structural parameters, and frontier orbital energies of complexes. The results indicated that the polarity of solvent had a significant effect on the frontier orbital energies and HOMO-LUMO gap. The character of Fe-C bonds of molecules was analyzed by Natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. Back-bonding effect in these bonds was explored with calculation of quadrupole polarization of carbon atom by QTAIM analysis. Also, ¹⁴N NQR parameters were used for the illustration of Fe-NCS and Fe-SCN bonds.
