Laser gas-assisted material processing finds wide application in industry. The modelling of heating, elastic response of the substrate material, and the wave analysis gives insight into the laser workpiece interaction. In the present study, laser gas-assisted heating of steel is considered. The normal component of the thermal stress is taken as the source of load for the flexural wave generation in the material. The flexural wave generated is simulated and the wave characteristics are analyzed at four locations at the workpiece surface. The numerical scheme employing a control volume approach is introduced when solving the governing equations of flow and heat transfer while finite element and spectran element methods are used when solving the stress and wave equations. It is found that the normal component of the stress is tensile. The dispersion effect of the workpiece material, interference of the reflected beam, and partial overlapping of second mode of the travelling wave enable to identify a unique pattern in the travelling wave in the substrate.  相似文献

Summary Palladium and uranium react with 4,4-acetalidine-bis-(3-methyl isoxazolone-5) in acid medium to give yellow color having a visual limit of identification at 2 and 15g per ml. This color reaction provides the basis of a new method for colorimetric determination of palladium and uranium. Copper also gives yellow color but it cannot be determined with this color reaction because the color intensity is not stable. The maximum tolerable limit of various ions is reported.
Zusammenfassung Pd und U reagieren in saurem Milieu mit 4,4-Acetalidin-bis-(3-methyl-isoxazolon-5) unter Gelbfärbung mit einer Erfassungsgrenze von 2 bzw. 15g/ml. Diese Farbreaktion dient als Grundlage für eine neue kolorimetrische Methode für Pd und U. Cu gibt zwar auch eine Gelbfärbung, kann aber damit nicht bestimmt werden, da die Farbintensität nicht beständig ist. Die maximal tolerierbare Menge der Fremdionen wird angegeben.

The kinetics of Ru(III) catalyzed oxidation of triethylamine by molecular oxygen has been investigated in the pH range 1.5 to 2.5 at 35°C and I=0.1 M KCl. The reaction is first order with respect to substrate, catalyst and molecular oxygen concentrations. The rate of the reaction increases with the increase of pH from 1.5 to 2.5 and then there is a slight decrease in the rate above pH 2.5. Based on the kinetic data, a mechanism for the catalytic oxidation of triethylamine is proposed. The major products in the oxidation of triethylamine are the N-oxide, diethylamine and acetaldehyde.

Flow over a rectangular porous block placed in a fixed width channel is considered and the influence of block aspect ratio on the heat transfer rate from the block is examined. A non-porous solid block is also accommodated to compare the effect of porosity on the flow field and heat transfer characteristics. Aspect ratio and the porosity of the block are varied in the simulations. A numerical scheme employing a control volume approach is considered when predicting the flow and temperature fields. The Reynolds number is selected to yield the mix convection situation in the flow field. It is found that the aspect ratio significantly influences Nu and Gr numbers, in which case increasing the aspect ratio enhances Nu while lowering Gr. Increasing porosity improves the heat transfer rates from the porous block, provided that at high aspect ratios, this situation ceases due to blockage effect of the body in the channel.  相似文献

Polyimide‐silica (PI‐SiO2) hybrids were prepared from a novel polyimide (PI), derived from pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA), 1,6‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)hexane (synthesized) and 4,4′‐oxydianiline. SiO2 networks (5–30 wt%) were generated through sol–gel process using either tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) or a mixture of 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane‐PMDA‐based coupling oligomers (APA) and TEOS. Thin, free standing hybrid films were obtained from the respective mixtures by casting and curing processes. The hybrid films were characterized using Fourier transform infrared, 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM), energy dispersive X‐ray spectrometry and atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques. 29Si NMR results provide information about formation of organically modified silicate structures that were further substantiated by FE‐SEM and AFM micrographs. Contact angle measurements and thermogravimetric thermograms reveal that the addition of APA profoundly influences surface energy, interfacial tension, thermal stability and the residual char yield of modified hybrids in comparison to those obtained by mixing only TEOS. It was found that reduced particle size, efficient dispersion and improved interphase interactions were responsible for the eventual property enhancement. Jet impingement onto a hole with elevated wall temperature can be associated with the high‐temperature thermal drilling, where the gas jet is used for shielding the hole wall from the high‐temperature oxidation reactions as observed in the case of laser drilling. In laser processing, the molten flow from the hole wall occurs; and in the model study, the hole wall velocity resembling the molten flow should be accounted for. In the present study, gas jet impingement onto tapered hole with elevated temperature is considered and the heat transfer rates as well as skin friction at the hole wall surface are predicted. The velocity of molten flow from the hole wall determined from the previous study is adopted in the simulations and the effect of hole wall velocity on the heat transfer rates and skin friction is also examined. It is found that the Nusselt number and skin friction at the hole wall in the regions of hole inlet and exit attain high values. The influence of hole wall velocity on the Nusselt number and skin friction is found not to be very significant. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
