Franck-Condon factors and r-centroids of B-X, C-X and C-A band systems of AlO molecule

Using the high resolution Fourier transform spectrometer the B²Σ⁺-X²Σ⁺ band system of AlO molecule has been recorded. The rotational structure of eighteen bands belonging to B²Σ⁺-X²Σ⁺ transition of AlO have been analyzed which led to accurate rotational and vibrational constants of ground and excited states. A few bands, viz. (2, 1), (3, 2), (4, 3), (2, 3), (3, 4), (4, 5), and (5, 6) were analyzed for the first time. Using these constants, the Franck-Condon factors and r-centroids were computed for the bands of B-X, C-X and C-A band systems for the v′ = 0-8; v″ = 0-8 matrix using the method developed by Jarmain and Nicholls. The F-C factors and r-centroids obey the established relationships.

Magnetic properties and electronic structure of manganese(III) porphyrins

The average magnetic susceptibility (1.2-100 K) and magnetisation (100–15000 Oe at 4.2 K) of two perchlorato manganese(III) porphyrins establish them to be high-spin, in contrast to the “anomalous” behaviour of analogous iron(III) porphyrins. An explanation of the origin of the zero-field splitting in high-spin manganese(III) porphyrins is presented.     

Carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance studies on high spin iron(III) porphyrins

Carbon-13 NMR studies on a series of high spin iron(III) porphyrins, namely tetraphenylporphyrin iron(III) halides [Fe(TPP) X, X=Cl, Br, I] in CDCl₃ solution are reported. As expected the¹³C shifts are found to be an order of magnitude larger than the corresponding proton shifts. The dipolar contribution, which is quite important for the proton NMR, becomes much less significant for the¹³C shifts. No systematic variation in the¹³C shift across the series is observed, except for the meso-carbon which shows a small but gradual decrease in going from the chloro to the iodo complex. The¹³C shift for the various carbon atoms of the porphyrin ligand shows interesting pattern which is discussed in terms of spin delocalisation mechanisms.     

Fourier transform spectral study of BΣ-XΣ system of AlO

The spectrum of B²Σ⁺-X²Σ⁺ system of AlO has been recorded on BOMEM DA8 Fourier transform spectrometer at an apodized resolution of 0.05 cm⁻¹. Nineteen bands of the Δv = 1, 0, −1, and −2 sequences of this band system have been analyzed for the rotational structure. Out of which seven bands, viz. 3-2, 4-3, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6 and 6-7 have been analyzed for the first time. The rotational lines of these 19 bands along with 20 earlier analyzed bands, a total of 7200 lines, have been fitted in a simultaneous least squares fit. The study has resulted in determining more precise vibrational and rotational constants of the two states. Because of the high resolution employed it became necessary to invoke H₀ and H₁ coefficients, and a fifth order term to explain the anomalous spin-doubling observed in the v″ = 5, 6 and 7 levels of the X²Σ⁺ state.     

Ultrasonic decontamination of prototype fast breeder reactor fuel pins

Fuel pin decontamination is the process of removing particulates of radioactive material from its exterior surface. It is an important process step in nuclear fuel fabrication. It assumes more significance with plutonium bearing fuel known to be highly radio-toxic owing to its relatively longer biological half life and shorter radiological half life. Release of even minute quantity of plutonium oxide powder in the atmosphere during its handling can cause alarming air borne activity and may pose a severe health hazard to personnel working in the vicinity. Decontamination of fuel pins post pellet loading operation is thus mandatory before they are removed from the glove box for further processing and assembly. This paper describes the setting up of ultrasonic decontamination process, installed inside a custom built fume-hood in the production line, comprising of a cleaning tank with transducers, heaters, pin handling device and water filtration system and its application in cleaning of fuel pins for prototype fast breeder reactor. The cleaning process yielded a typical decontamination efficiency of more than 99%.     

The effects of different possible modes of uniaxial strain on the tunability of electronic and band structures in $$\text {MoS}_2$$ monolayer nanosheet via first-principles density functional theory

Although it is important for the study of graphene, identifying and characterizing the number of graphene layers is challenging. In this paper, we calculate graphene’s transmission. The result shows that the phase change is more sensitive than the intensity change when light passes through graphene in some THz frequencies. Based on this fact, a simple route is presented for identifying the single or few layers of graphene sheets by using terahertz phase contrast microscopy (TPCM). The route is fast, and easy to be carried out.
