Mössbauer and infrared spectroscopic studies of novel mixed valence states in cobaltous ferrocyanides and ferricyanides

Novel mixed valence states have been obtained by the treatment of cobaltous ferrocyanides (Co⁺²Fe^II) and ferricyanides (Co⁺²Fe^III) in an ozone flow. The CN stretching bands occur at 2085 cm^–1 for Co⁺²Fe^II and at 2160 cm^–1 for Co⁺²Fe^III. After the ozonization process of Co⁺²Fe^II, an intense band approximately at 2125 cm^–1 is detected. This intermediate band must correspond to a mixed valence state of the type: Fe^II–CN–Co²⁺–NC–Fe^III Mössbauer spectra recorded in situ during the ozonization of Co⁺²Fe^II show the presence of two components: a doublet with isomer shift and quadrupole splitting values close to the cobalti ferricyanide and a very broad line for the mixed valence state. From the Mössbauer and infrared spectra of the aged samples of the Co⁺²Fe^II after ozonization, a relaxation process to the initial state of the samples is observed but the mixed valence state is stable.     

Search for color singlet technicolor particles in p&pmacr; collisions at radicals = 1.8 TeV

We search for color singlet technirho and technipion production in p&pmacr; collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. These exotic technimesons are present in a model of walking technicolor. The signatures studied are lepton plus two jets plus E(T) and multijet final states. No excess of events is seen in either final state. We set an upper limit on the technirho production cross section and exclude a region in the technipion mass versus technirho mass plane.     

Diffractive dijets with a leading antiproton in &pmacr;p collisions at sqrt

We report results from a study of events with a leading antiproton of beam momentum fraction 0.9057 GeV. Using the dijet events, we evaluate the diffractive structure function of the antiproton and compare it with expectations based on results obtained in diffractive deep inelastic scattering experiments at the DESY ep collider HERA.     

MD Calculations on Nystose Combined with NMR Spectroscopy on Inulin Related Oligosaccharides

Abstract

Molecular Dynamics (MD) calculations have been performed on nystose in water. According to these calculations the glycosidic linkages of the molecule are flexible. Structures obtained with MD calculations are compared with NMR data of several inulin related oligosaccharides and inulin, resulting in a model for the conformation of their fructofuranosyl residues. To extend the set of available NMR data of inulin related oligosaccharides, the complete assignment of the ¹H and ¹³C NMR signals of β-D-fructofuranosyl-(2->l)-ß-D-fructofuranosyl-(2->l)-ß-D-fructofuranosyl-(2->l)-ß-D-fructofuranosyl-(2->l)-α-D-glucopyranoside has been given here, using several 2D homo- and heteronuclear NMR experiments. Accurate coupling constants have been obtained by simulation of the 600 MHz 1D NMR spectra.     

Quantitative Analysis of the Molecular Weight Distribution of Inulin by Means of Anion Exchange HPLC with Pulsed Amperometric Detection

Abstract

A method, using anion exchange chromatography and pulsed amperometric detection, is described for quantitative analysis of the oligosaccharides present in inulin. The analysis of a number averaged and molecular weight averaged degree of polymerisation and the dispersion of inulin and inulin fractions is given.
