Functional zinc(II) phthalocyanines bearing Schiff base complexes as oxidation catalysts for bleaching systems

Oxidation catalysis is used to increase the performance of hydrogen peroxide in laundry bleach applications. Bleach catalysts provide cost‐effective, energy‐saving and environmentally friendly bleach systems yielding perfect stain removal at lower temperatures. This comparative study is based on the synthesis of bis[bis(salicylhydrazonephenoxy)manganese(III)] phthalocyaninatozinc(II) ( 2 ), bis[bis(salicylhydrazonephenoxy)cobalt(III)] phthalocyaninatozinc(II) ( 3 ) and bis[bis(salicylhydrazonephenoxy)iron(III)] phthalocyaninatozinc(II) ( 4 ) as tri‐nuclear complexes consisting of two Schiff base complexes substituting a zinc phthalocyanine. Complexion on the periphery to obtain complexes 2 , 3 , 4 was performed through the reaction of a Schiff base‐substituted phthalocyanine using MnCl₂?4H₂O, CoCl₂?6H₂O or FeCl₃?6H₂O salts in basic condition in dimethylformamide. Fourier transform infrared, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, UV–visible, inductively coupled plasma optical emission and mass spectra were applied to characterize the prepared compounds. The bleach performances of the three phthalocyanine compounds 2 , 3 , 4 were examined by the degradation of morin as hydrophilic dye. The degradation progress in the presence of catalysts 2 , 3 , 4 /H₂O₂ combination in aqueous solution was investigated using an online spectrophotometric method. It was found that the catalysts 2 , 3 , 4 exhibited better bleaching performance at 25 °C than tetraactylethylethylenediamine as bleach activator used in powder detergent formulations for stain removal. Stress Distribution in an Infinite Elastic Body with a Locally Curved Fiber in a Geometrically Nonlinear Statement

Within the framework of a piecewise homogeneous body model, with the use of three-dimensional geometrically nonlinear exact equations of elasticity theory, a method for determining the stress—strain state in unidirectional fibrous composites with locally curved fibers is developed for the case where the interaction between the fibers is neglected. All the investigations are carried out for an infinite elastic body containing a single locally curved fiber. Numerical results illustrating the effect of geometrical nonlinearity on the distribution of the self-balanced normal and shear stresses acting on the interface and arising as a result of local curving of the fiber are presented.__________Russian translation published in Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 41, No. 4, pp. 433–448, July–August, 2005.     

First-principles studies of the electronic structure and optical properties of AgBO<Subscript>3</Subscript> (B=Nb,Ta) in the paraelectric phase

The electronic energy-band structure, density of states (DOS), and optical properties of AgBO₃ in the paraelectric cubic phase have been studied by using density functional theory within the local density approximation for exchange-correlation for the first time. The band structure shows a band gap of 1.533 eV (AgNbO₃)and 1.537 eV (AgTaO₃)at (M-⌈)point in the Brillouin zone. The optical spectra of AgBO₃ in the photon energy range up to 30 eV are investigated under the scissor approximation. The real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function and — thus the optical constants such as reflectivity, absorption coefficient, electron energy-loss function, refractive index, and extinction coefficient — are calculated. We have also made some comparisons with related experimental and theoretical data that is available.      

Genocchi polynomials associated with the Umbral algebra

The aim of this paper is to study on the Genocchi polynomials of higher order on P, the algebra of polynomials in the single variable x over the field C of characteristic zero and P^∗, the vector spaces of all linear functional on P. By using the action of a linear functional L on a polynomial p(x) Sheffer sequences and Appell sequences, we obtain some fundamental properties of the Genocchi polynomials. Furthermore, we give relations between, the first and second kind Stirling numbers, Euler polynomials of higher order and Genocchi polynomials of higher order.     

A family of p-adic twisted interpolation functions associated with the modified Bernoulli numbers

The main purpose of this paper is to construct a family of modified p-adic twisted functions, which interpolate the modified twisted q-Bernoulli polynomials and the generalized twisted q-Bernoulli numbers at negative integers. We also give some applications and examples related to these functions and numbers.     

Solvothermal synthesis of WO3/TiO2/carbon fiber composite photocatalysts for enhanced performance under sunlight illumination

Carbon fiber (CF)‐based WO₃/TiO₂ composite catalysts (WO₃/TiO₂/CF) were successfully synthesized by solvothermal method. The catalysts were characterized by XPS, SEM, BET, XRD, FTIR, Raman and UV–Vis. The analyses confirmed the WO₃/TiO₂ nanoparticles with high crystallinity deposited on the carbon structure. The photocatalytic degradation of Orange II azo dye under UV and sunlight illumination with the synthesized catalyst was explored. The composite catalyst displayed high performance (85%) for Orange II degradation while that of for WO₃/TiO₂ was found as 76%. The effects of CF amount, solution pH, initial dye concentration and catalyst dose on photocatalytic performance were studied. It was found that the degradation efficiency increased from 68% to 90% with the increasing CF amount from 3 wt% to 5 wt%, while the further increase in CF amount (7–10 wt%) decreased the photodegradation due to the blocking the active sites of WO₃/TiO₂. The enhanced photocatalytic efficiency was mainly attributed to the electrical properties of the CF and reduced bandgap.     

A unique continuation result for the plate equation and an application

In this paper, we prove the unique continuation property for the weak solution of the plate equation with the low regular coefficient. Then, we apply this result to study the global attractor for the semilinear plate equation with a localized damping. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
