During continuous peeling, a central polymer rod free of visible defects was continuously extruded while being peeled at the die exit. Continuous peeling can occur at flow rates orders of magnitude higher than those at which initial surface cracking is observed. Thus, if continuous peeling can be controlled it may have potential industrial applications. The aim of this work was to study how different extrusion parameters (temperature, flow rate, die length and diameter) affect the presence of continuous peeling. The melt exiting the die has been filmed to link physical measurements and observations and to determine whether or not continuous peeling is present. Different criteria have been considered to represent the extrusion conditions under which continuous peeling may occur. Surface tension criteria can be used to try to predict the appearance and disappearance of continuous peeling. A correlation formula is also proposed for the rod diameter in terms of surface tension. Our results show that the ratio of the rod diameter to the die diameter is approximately 25% greater in the case of short-orifice dies (L/D ≈ 0) than for long capillaries (L/D ≈ 10). The correlations obtained allow analysis and discussion of flow regimes for possible applications. 相似文献

In this paper we extend the plane blow-up results of Grundy& McLaughlin (1997) to the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations.Using a solution structure originally due to Lin we first providenumerical evidence for the existence of blow-up solutions on- < x, z < , 0 y 1 with boundary conditions on y = 0and y = 1 involving derivatives of the velocity components.The formulation enables us to consider plane and radial flowas special cases. Various features of the computations are isolatedand are used to construct a formal asymptotic solution closeto blow-up. We show that the numerical and asymptotic analysesprovide a mutually consistent global picture which supportsthe conclusion that, for the family of problems we considerhere, blow-up in fact can take place in three dimensions butat an inverse linear rate rather than the faster inverse squareof the plane case. 相似文献

Ice nucleating-active Pseudomonas fluorescens F264C was fed to Colorado potato beetles to determine bacterial retentioin in the beetle gut and its effect on the cold hardiness of this insect pest. The bacrterium was present in beetles recovered after overwintering in the field, seven months after their exposure to P. fluorescens. Opacity is an important ingredient of the evolution of stars. The calculation of opacity coefficients is complicated by the fact that the plasma contains partially ionized heavy ions that contribute to opacity dominated by H and He. Up to now, the astrophysical community has greatly benefited from the work of the contributions of Los Alamos [1], Livermore [2],
[2a]
and
[2b]
and the Opacity Project (OP) [3]. However unexplained differences of up to 50% in the radiative forces and Rosseland mean values for Fe have been noticed for conditions corresponding to stellar envelopes. Such uncertainty has a real impact on the understanding of pulsating stellar envelopes, on the excitation of modes, and on the identification of the mode frequencies. Temperature and density conditions equivalent to those found in stars can now be produced in laboratory experiments for various atomic species. Recently the photo-absorption spectra of nickel and iron plasmas have been measured during the LULI 2010 campaign, for temperatures between 15 and 40 eV and densities of ∼3 mg/cm3. A large theoretical collaboration, the “OPAC”, has been formed to prepare these experiments. We present here the set of opacity calculations performed by eight different groups for conditions relevant to the LULI 2010 experiment and to astrophysical stellar envelope conditions. 相似文献

A constitutive equation is proposed, which is constructed using both phenomenological and structural ideas. In this formulation, the kinematics of the fluid is characterized by the deformation rate and a structural vector. The vector follows an evolutionary law which is inspired by known molecular models. The expression for the stress is given by introducing a dissipative term related to the strong hydrodynamic interaction of the distorted molecules and a deformation term for the molecules, as well as by using the second law of thermodynamics.A study of the general properties of the evolutionary equation and its response in a homogeneous two-dimensional flow provides evidence of the performance of the proposed model. 相似文献

This experimental study is related to the flow between a stationary small diameter needle and a moving drum of much larger diameter, seen as a moving plane. Our visualisation experimental set-up adds new results regarding the flow behaviour of a polymer solution. This flow is compared to that of a Newtonian fluid used under the same kinematic conditions. Important differences between Newtonian and polymeric flows concern mainly streamlines, stagnation point positions, and reverse flow. A second experimental set-up enabled us to obtain normal stress profiles along the needle wall and the flow rate through the gap. The sd-interacting boson approximation (sd-IBA) and the df-interacting boson approximation (df-IBA) can be related to each other and the states of the interacting boson approximation model can be identified with the fully symmetric states in the sdf interacting boson approximation model. A systematic study of the sdf-IBA model showed that the constructed Hamiltonian can successfully describe the strong octupole correlations in the deformed nuclei. We showed that the interacting boson approximation may account for many of these K π ?=?0+ states. It was found that the calculated energy spectra of the gadolinium isotopes agree quite well with the experimental data. The observed B(E2) values were also calculated and compared with the experimental data. 相似文献
